Any suggestions for setting a fan knot?

I recently bought a low end brush that has a knot that I can't use. It's horrible!
I have a AP Shave co 26mm G5C fan knot coming and am looking for suggestions in setting depth.
Having never set nor used a fan I have no clue on how deep to set or guidelines for such.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

A 26mm G5C works well at 54-55mm loft, though I've seen some examples that have been set as low as 52. Depends on how much backbone you want. APShaveCo says the fiber length from base to tip is approximately 65mm, so that should give you some parameters.

I originally set my G5C at 50mm. I reset it at 53mm and, IMHO, it's now perfect.

Nice, thank you

I know you've gone this route before. But just a reminder, use the least amount of adhesive as possible. You really don't need much at all. :)
Excellent suggestion. Removing old adhesive is the toughest part. Do you use a specific type? Im assuming silicone

I've never used silicone adhesive. But it sounds like a good idea. The first time I put a knot in a handle, I used surfboard epoxy resin. And I used way too much. The second time I used 5-minute epoxy and used way less. It turn out great. All I can say is you'll need far less than you think. :)

Just a last followup, for Final glue up I used E 6000.
It's a very good all purpose adhesive that cures hard and strong.

I re-knotted two brushes and these are my final loft settings. They are great for my standards and preferences.

Brush 1
Yaqi Sagrada Familia G5C knot (re-knot)
24mm knot, 55 Loft

Brush 2
Yaqi Moka Express G5C knot (re-knot)
26 knot, 53 loft

Personally, I like a lot of loft. More than most others here. It is a personal opinion.

That said, I would encourage you to set it using silicon so you can easily remove it and set it again with more or less loft. Repeat as often as you wish until you land on the setting that works best for you. Once you do find your personal best, consider setting it again, but with epoxy.

Excellent advice sir!
That is basically what I did. I set first with silicone and tried it out but then I used the E6000 as a permanent setting.
