One doesn't see these too often and in my many, many, searches I've come across people referencing the Apollo slant I've only come across three. Two here owned by B&B member Jake and third on another forum. Ever since finding one at my local antique fair I've set the sails to full in pursuit of them. With that in mind I set about looking for one to go along with my regular Apollo DE.
Well today I heard a ding at my door where the mailman gave me a package. Upon opening it I was impressed with the condition of the case as it has no wear or tear , rips, scuffs or other marks which would take away from it's appearance. Inside I found the usual German quality razor with mirror head & plating throughout and a very important point, an impeccable middle bakelite handle. Usually these are cracked scuffed, or nicked. Not so with this one. Along with the non cracked Bakelite handle was marking on the base plate DRGM which would put this razor possibly near WW 1. This being a three piece design I was pleased to find a unique feature that I only have found on an Eclipse red ring(thanks Amishmotorboat). A magnetic end which allows you to pick a blade up without the use of your hands. Awesome! Also another neat feature to open this one has to push the small metal pin as one can see in the photo. Push in to open & closes with a "click" for travel. Most cased razors of the day didn't even bother with this. The Gem has a leather snap but for the most part soft cases don't. It's a beautiful razor which I'm glad to have found and document. I apologize in advance as I only have my phone camera.
