A Ranger of My Own

Just won a Ranger Tech on the bay for $33 bucks. Nothing fancy; just a clean razor in good shape. i wanted a shaver not a displayer so not having a box and all that was not important. My reading all the past posts and the wikkies & stickies tells me this one is special - or so I hope. With luck it will arrive for a pre midnight Christmas Mass shave. Big doings that night!
Any words of pithy wisdom before I Scrubbing-Bubble it to death? I have a fine Rat Pack Christmas CD set aside along with my last Cuban (cigar that is, not a woman), and a fifth of a decent single malt.

Congrats, It's a beaut of a razor, I'm sure you'll be pleased with it.
Sounds like you have a plan laid out, and and it seems to be a good one!

Thanks for the support - thirty bucks is not exactly spare change. I spent a year in Tbilisi as Defense Attache. Love your Russian script; too stupid to know how to do same.............?

For the Cyrillic letters, try your character map (do a search from start, it'll show up).

The Ranger Tech is a very special razor. Only produced two years, framing WWII, and immediately preceding the legendary Super Speed, it's a great shaver. As to not having a case, they're out there if you watch for them. I've seen three or more incorrectly cased razors in them on eBay in the past few weeks, one or two were in very nice shape.

I was wondering who bumped the bid up to 33 buck in the last 10 minutes of the auction. I was hoping it went to someone who would appreciate it as much as I would. Great buy. I have been looking for one of these for about 2 weeks now. Sounds like a great Christmas planed, cant beat a good cuban and single malt. I normally pair my cigars with a good beer. You will have to let me know how that Ranger cuts.

I paid the princely sum of $3 for mine, having never seen one before.

I found it to be the best TTO I have used, by a long shot, and one of the top razors I have ever used.

Its aggressiveness is just about perfect and it works very, very well with an Astra.

I have spent some time thinking about why I like the shave it produces and I guess it comes down to the way that it both produces a close and a comfortable shave, with absolutely minimal irritation. I use it to recover from previous "over enthusiastic" shaves, but it shaves close enough that I do not consider it a specialty shaver.

I don't know how it works so well, but I can say that I have shaved without a mirror, with multiple creams, sometimes with great speed and...never a nick or a sign of irritation.

Now that I have a fair bit of personal experience with it, I would say that $33 is a fair price for a close, comfortable shaver. I would trade two of the later Superspeeds for one and I consider the Superspeeds to be pretty decent razors.

Good score!

To all: Thank for the good cheer! I figure the price paid wasn't too bad as I consistantly see one from another seller for a hundred bucks or so (99), though with a case. Tim, thank you for the advice as I will watch for a case. Getting the bid bumped was a last minute shot of quiet desperation - how many of us are guilty of buying our own presents and find lots of ways to justify it?! I look forward to the shave with or without a cold one or a warm scotch!
Cheers & Merry Christmas to all!
(now I gotta find that translation key)

I have been searching the bay looking for a nice case for a Milord...changing up the search parameters etc.... I came across a cased ranger...The seller knew what he/she had...I didn't see the final price...wondering if a B&B'er picked it up?? Sorry I don't have the link...I didn't think much about it until reading this thread. I didn't realize they were so rare...I'm just getting into the Krumholz book! :)

Indeed, there was one which closed this week where the seller did NOT know what they had. I sent them a kind note and they promptly did a little more research. cased and pretty clean for about 75 bucks or so. I will keep my eyes open for a proper case, and a Milord for you.

I picked up a Ranger case that had a Gillette New in it, since the New had a broken tooth got it for next to nothing. At the time did not realize it was the incorrect case for the New until I looked at Mr-Razor's site.

Congrats! It should be an awesome razor!
I have owned one for several years but never shaved with it. I have a forties Super Speed and I just always figured the shave was the same.

Dave,

Congrats on landing that Ranger Tech - I saw it and placed a bid . . . but didn't go after it aggressively! I'm glad you got it, since you do like the Gillettes from that era!!

I don't think the seller really knew what it was . . . I'm sure it will look great once you give it the "once over" . . .

Regards,

Brad
