I realize I've been a bit quiet as of late. My second job has started back up (its a seasonal job at a drag strip here in Southeast Missouri, we're getting geared up for spring) and I'm in the home stretch of wedding planning/execution (IE spending all of my money haha) but I do have a really cool story to tell.
A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine noticed that I have been posting about shaving on my Facebook page quite a bit since I started wet shaving in October. He was like most of us, tired of paying for cartridges and getting lackluster shaves. Needless to say, my eyes lit up at this opportunity. He found a 50's Super Speed at one of our local antique stores and picked it up for about $12 I believe he said. I told him how to clean it up and get it ready. Then we discussed the soaps, blades, brushes, etc. In about 2 days worth of texting and messaging back and forth, he was confident enough to pick up some gear and start shaving. He placed an order for a blade sampler, a Simpson badger brush, some proraso, GFT shave soap and skin food and a cool little EJ shaving mug. After his order came in and he tried it, he messaged back "why did I wait so long to try this?" Talk about feeling pretty good about helping someone get into something new.
Prior to this, another friend had asked about wet shaving and I gave him a few recommendations for razors and where to start. I don't believe he has started yet, but it was still cool to know that amongst my group I'm "the cool shaving guy" it seems. Which is a title I'll gladly wear haha and I do enjoy talking shaving with folks.
