What's new

A nib "intentions" post for 2013.

Not a resolutions list, which has the implication of grimly forcing oneself to act in a particular way. This is just how I see 2013 going for writing equipment.

  • No pen purchases. After a couple of late 2012 rounding-outs of my selection, I don't know what I'd be trying to accomplish by getting more. I'll try to fix a couple of broken ones I have lying around. The idea of having one of my current nibs customized by a nibmeister is appealing, but first I'd have to have a better idea of what I'm looking for. On the other hand, if I pass an unmissable bargain on some vintage pen at a yard sale, well, again, these are not actually resolutions.
  • No more inks. No willpower at all required here. I splurged a while ago on a $28 dollar bottle of Namiki Iroshizuku Asa-Gao. It's a nice blue, very nice with one pen in particular. Looking at a page written with it, do I think it's actually better than the regular Namiki Blue, $10 for a slightly larger bottle? Not really. Different shade, but not that different. I've got something workable for every basic color I want, and until I'm close to running out, there's really no point.
  • If I run out of notebook paper, I'll buy some more, but I don't see that happening for quite a while. On the other hand, I do want to get some decent stationery.
  • I've got enough pen/pencil cases.
  • Writing desk. Ah, there we go. I've got my writing tools and materials, now it's time to think about the work area. Not really sure what would be best, and I'll take my time, but it's clear that I need something better than what I've got. And I can probably find one for less than a Montblanc or Nakaya.

Nice idea, I'll play along. It'll be interesting to see how/if things change as the year progresses...

  • B&B Essentials FP pen, fine nib, with the standard rollerball conversion
  • Already on order, Rhodia WebPanner
  • Rhodia WebNotebook
  • bottle of good solid black ink, brand undetermined as of yet
  • Quiver pen holder for the WebPlanner

That's the plan at this point, with the most important part being to actually use the items.

Fridays are Fishtastic!
The pen I intend to own this year is an M600 or 800. I am going to buy a Rhodia Planner, and intend to become more organized this year. Other than that, I am winging it.

In 2013, I want to try to focus more on Vintage pens. There are a few local second hand, or consignment shops that I have never even walked into for pens or shaving stuff. Since I joined the 2013 shave purchase sabbatical, I will only be looking for old pens!
I would like to pick up the Vac tools, and a couple cheap Vacs to learn how to repair them.
Other than that, I cannot say that I will not buy any pens, I started saving pennies for the new Pelikan M800 Tortoise the other day.

I intend on getting more inks, more pens, and help others discover their deep down desire to join in on our fun

I intend to part ways with a few pens. Probably B/S/T at some point.

I'm set on ink for the rest of my life. LMAO

I would like to score another notebook or two though.

All being well in 2013

  • No more ink until I have made a large dent in the drawer full I currently have.
  • No more pens (except for an Edison in July) this will probably be the hardest one.
  • Improve my handwriting and learn Gothic.

Starting 2012, the only pens I really liked were Pilot G2s in 0.5mm. Sometime in July or August I ventured into the Nib, became curious, and bought a three-pack of Pilot Varsity disposables. I discovered that I liked how they wrote, but the flow was way too much for my left-handed writing style. So I included those into shaving PIFs, of which I managed to enable Krona Kruiser and at least one other person into buying pens.

At the end of 2012, this is what I've got:

It's a small collection. A Pilot 78g in F and a Lamy Safari in EF, with an extra F nib for the Lamy. I have a bottle of Noodler's Black and samples of Noodler's Bernanke Black, Noodler's Bernanke Blue, Diamine Greeen/Black and Pilot Iroshikuzu Tsuki-yo.

As for 2013, I have no idea. I will be participating in a shave purchase sabbatical, the local tea shop closed and I'm winding down how much alcohol I drink. This means that there's only pens to put money towards, and I'm already eyeballing the B&B Essential and a TWSBI Mini.

I should probably look for a piece of equity interest in Goulet Pens for next year, it might be cheaper.

For 2013 I'd like to get a couple more customs from some of the different turners around the country. Even if I don't end up using them much, there's just something special about having something that somebody MADE.
But then something bad happens and I drop one...

One of my favorite pens and I let it fall out of my shirt pocket. Why was it even in there?? I dunno...
Good thing about customs is that you can send them off to be fixed by the guy who made it. This one is already on its way back to Canada.

Thanks! :)
Since I started making pens the only prints I've made have been class room demos at school. :biggrin1: I keep pretty busy though.

I should be good unless I get a job that gives me way too much money. I will be selling off some inks that don't trip my trigger and replacing them with some that hopefully do...

If I find a something with a really good price, I will jump on it...

Oh god, that made me ill. I cannot imagine how you felt.
