What's new

A new shave technique -by me

I call it the dog method -- dogs pack up to do their thing so I decided to name my invention after this trait.

What I did was take a Merkur razor stuff a blade in it and then stuff 4 shims under the cutting blade then I placed a cutting blade under those shims

in effect a double ---- double edge.

got the closest shave of my life.

Try it and let me know what you think of the dog shave

I wouldn't even try it because there are too many unexplained variables that could greatly affect the results.

  • What model Merkur razor?
  • What is the thickness of the shims?
  • What brand of razor blade? The thickness of metal varies between brands

Maybe even 5? :w00t:

That's good! I like it, but how about we use a lighter weight material for the handle like Injection Molded plastic?

And being as the first blade is going to remove the lather, how about some kind of lubricating strip to try to help protect your bare skin from the other blades?

Of course, there's no way to put the strip between the blades, so we'll just have to put it at the bottom where it's completely useless, but folks will see it and think it's great.

We could make a fortune!

Hmmm...

All the obvious jokes aside, I think I have a method for you:

Take a 3 piece razor.

Load a fresh blade in it.

Take tin snips to a used blade, cutting 1/4" off each side (cut away the edge).

Load this shim blade onto the razor.

Load another fresh blade.

In effect, you've got a twin blade in a DE razor.

Might give this a try....

Uh, didn't we already do this?

Crazy idea, but what if you tried this with three blades??!?!!

Maybe I missed the design concept (which is highly likely), but...So, in essence you are on your way to make this:

Tried my used-blade-as-a-shim method.

Tried it with a Tech 3-piece.

No go. The shim needs to extend past the top plate of the razor, otherwise the two sharp blades end up touching.

On second thought, I think I'll stick to just one blade.

Why complicate things?

You could just open a can of soup. Use tin snips to cut the lid into strips. Test the edge on a ripe tomato before assembling it into a rack of three "blades".

You know the rest.

Both DE's and injector blades were marketed like this for a few years.

Nice try at reinventing the wheel!
