What's new

A moment of ingeniuty on the road (involves SCS aftershave doing double duty)....

So, I travelled to Orlando for a meeting on Monday. When I awoke on Tuesday morning at the hotel, after showering and shaving, I discovered that I had neglected to pack an antiperspirant or deodorant of any kind! :scared: I had a meeting to attend, and then two plane rides to take before I would be home.

There was a moment of two of sheer panic, and then I got an idea. I always wear anti-perspirants, but what exactly ARE deodorants:confused1, I thought to myself. Aren't they essentially a substance that kills bacteria, coupled with a nice scent?

I had a little pocket bottle of Purell and a sample of Sue's wonderful "Bay Rum with a Twist" aftershave milk. Yep, you guessed it. I mixed the two together in a ratio of about 2 parts Purell to 1 part SCS aftershave milk, and applied it to my underarms.

Amazingly, it worked pretty well. When I got home, almost 12 hours after application, I told my wife I was sorry if I smelled like B.O.; she sniffed and told me I smelled fine!:wink2:

Anyway, heaven forbid you find yourself deodorant-less in a situation like mine, but if you do, Purell plus a nice aftershave seems to do the trick.

Thats a pretty good idea. Did it irritate your underarms at all?

I have to admit, as I read your post I thought that it was pretty brave of you to post it. It kind of seemed like custom user title material. MacGyver....

Neat trick. Very clever and I bet your seatmates on the plan were glad you thought of it.:001_tt2:

No irritation whatsoever. The SCS aftershave is a combination of skin-friendly ingredients such as aloe, witchhazel, etc., so I felt pretty comfortable putting it on. If anything, it's probably gentler to my underarms than my daily antiperspirant.

Brave? I don't know about that. I did something stupid (leaving my antiperspirant at home) followed by something reasonably clever. I thought people on this site might find it interesting; that's all.

Most hotels will give you a stick of deoderant on the house if you forget yours. You can also get toothbrushes and toothpaste.

thumbs up on the resourcefullness.

I don't know if all hotels do, but the Hampton Inn I worked at through college had travel-sized Right Guard deodorants at the desk for free. :001_tt2:

Nice MacGyver moment though.

Hmmm...maybe we should market the aftershave's as deodorant also?

Um, no-somehow that just doesn't sound right. That was pretty ingenious, good it worked for you.

Yep, have had to take advantage of that on several short notice trips!
