A history of brushes?

Mmm, I was looking for a thread similar to this one as I am more interested in a "general" Shaving Brush history, not just in America. One of the thing that would be great to have in Wiki would be History of Shaving Brushes. Something like History of shaving. How did they start? Who thought of assembling badger/horse/boar/etc hair into a little handle and decided, we will make lather today!

Any information on this? References into history books are premium!

Interesting - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brush has no historical information at all, nor does http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shave_brush - but google turns up a few links, as unreliable as they may be:

My own guess would be that various guilds or companies of brush-makers evolved similar techniques in different areas, and probably held those techniques as trade secrets up until the industrial era. In Europe, at least, their social standing seems to have been pretty low. At some point a subset of brush-makers started to specialize in shaving brushes, and that is where our interest starts. I would be delighted to learn more about this subject.

I will need to have a closer look at those links, thanks Mike!
