A Gibbs 15 reglable experiment

Today I tried an experiment. I keep my Gibbs adjustable for those parts of my wattles I cannot do with a straight. But today, having punched up a pack of Wilkinson DE blades with the peculiar notch to fit the Gibbs, I experimented. My usual soap and brush, well washed face, and managed to nick myself twice, in areas where I never have trouble with my straights. This particular blade had the worst notch of the batch, ugly, but it fits. Anyhow, I will use the Gibbs only on my throat in the future I think. A gorgeous little gadget but . . .

Is your blade alignment correct and stable with no movement? I have a very simple blade notching system - I use a standard hole punch used for paperwork as shown below.

Here are two examples of my modified blades and I seem to have removed less of the original blade than you have - perhaps you can position your punch closer to the edge of the blade end tab.

My punch makes only a 1/8 hole, so I have to nibble with it a bit.Your notches are much better, and wider. What do you have your adjustment set to? I have mine on N for throat stuff but think I should go to 1 or 2 if I want to shave my face with it, as that would make it less aggressive, I think

My Gibbs razors are the #14 and #16 which are not adjustable but instead have asymmetrical heads with a + and - side. I had a Gibbs adjustable but sold it as the shave did not please me due to it being so head heavy. I considered changing the handle to adjust the balance but decided against it as in my opinion it would then have ceased to be a Gibbs 👍

I have tried going to the number 1 setting, the lowest or least aggressive and will try a face shave with a Wilkinson Sword. My whole face burned after alum block when the razor was set to N. Could someone send me the e-mail of Etsy guy who makes those plastic Gibbs inserts? I tried signing up for Etsy and contacting him that way but somehow could not get it to work. Thanks much.

I've seen people post on the forums that some libraries in the US offer 3d printing service. Perhaps that could be an option for you?

I got mine delivered with the Gibbs I bought. Have only seen frugal shave offer them on Etsy.

/Edit it seems a bit strange that you would get such abismal shave from the Gibbs. It really is a great shaver for me, I use it on 4 and 5. But I will admit I haven't tried it without the alignment inserts. That said, everyone is different... I hope you can make it work for you!
