I watched the first 30 minutes (maybe) and turned it off. What a downer. Reminded me of the 18 months I spent in the Air Force in England which felt like 18 years.
I think it's one of those shows that either grab you from the get go, or leave you behind from the start.I watched the first 30 minutes (maybe) and turned it off. What a downer. Reminded me of the 18 months I spent in the Air Force in England which felt like 18 years.
I recently signed up with Max and I think GOT and it's predecessors are their. I have to admit I'm not the drama soap opera type where people conive and backstab one another for power. It never interests me in the least. I've been watching some of the old great movies they have through Turner Classic Movies and even a new on on the Von Erich wrestling family "The Claw" which i've been enjoying.I watched the first 30 minutes (maybe) and turned it off. OMG, reading the comment above what I'm typing, I had no idea Game of Thrones was a book series.
Maybe my perception is way off. I should watch one episode.
Wow, the Air Force must have been much different than I've been led to believe.I watched the first 30 minutes (maybe) and turned it off. What a downer. Reminded me of the 18 months I spent in the Air Force in England which felt like 18 years.
Yes. The backstabbing is literal.I wrote the comment above. It's a soap opera. With swords and dragons.
I had never even heard of the book series nor the author. I didn't even hear about GOT until it was many seasons in (I haven't owned a TV since the 70's). But it hooked me right away and I binge watched it.Having read the books I enjoyed the show. I can definitely see how it would be a downer for the uninitiated. Things don't work out well for many characters to say the least. That being said, boo to the series once the timeline exceeded the books.
And way more incest.I wrote the comment above. It's a soap opera. With swords and dragons.
IIRC, I made my way through the first two books then got bored midway through the next one. There's only so much melodrama I can take nowadays. I much prefer absurdism and humor to brooding stories about impending doom.Having read the books I enjoyed the show. I can definitely see how it would be a downer for the uninitiated. You know nothing @AndyPandaSorry to hear you didn't like it. I really enjoyed the entire series. Even if you didn't like the first episode - you should stick it out just to get to the episodes with Ygritte (or skip ahead).

Beat me to it. But it had to be done. You know nothing @AndyPanda
The benefit here is character development and details and description of the housesI've tried Game of Thrones at least twice - in neither case did I find it good enough to finish Episode 1. Since I just learned here it was a book series maybe I'll try the written version if ever again I'm tempted.
