What's new

4th shave in.

So I just completed my 4th shave with a straight. I was determined to use the straight to completely shave my face and neck. Went well , some razor burn, one minor cut. Still trying to get the angles down and switching hands to shave each side of my face.
I hear a lot of folks here say they use little pressure when shaving , but I feel I do need some when Im shaving. Is this just a beginner thing or something else.
The razor seems sharp enough, maybe could just be my technic . Had to go through a couple of passes before I felt that clean shave.

Sounds good! It took me a few shaves to have a shave that looked like 1 pass with a DE... Now, it's almost as close, I'm sure I can get a better result than a DE!

Give it time, you'll get there.

I don't know that I'd say I use any pressure so much as firmness. Shaving with a straight takes confidence born of learning that cutting yourself with one is actually harder (though still very easy!) than you had any reason to believe.

Congrats! It gets easier everytime you shave.

I'm finding this to be so true. Tomorrow will be shave #8 for me, I only shave every other day, or two, but I can't believe how my confidence with the straight had improved with each shave. The first shave I probably looked like I had Parkinson's disease, #2 a whole lot better, and on and on. #7 was really good, probable did 90% of my face and neck, I just moved that blade almost like my DE.

I'm not going to be so cocky though, #8 will be slow and careful, but now I'm really getting into this straight thing. :thumbup1:

We just say it so you don't chop your face up. Clearly there is pressure being used, but use too much and it hurts. Anyway, only experience will tell you the exact amount needed. Its about whats required from a DE.
