40s Superspeed - No Date Code

Can anyone tell me what the significance is of a 40s superspeed NOT having a date code?

Is the absence of a date code an indication of a difference in design or performance?

For a decade or so, Gillette wasn't punching any date code on their razor (For some obcur reasons). The NDC Super Speed or 40s is different in that, the blade gap is .64mm instead of .58mm for the Flare tip.

The "No date Code" Super Speed is the early post-war version. 1946-1949. The model continued production until 1954, but with the now familiar letter/numerical date code.
A NDC razor's date can be determined to some degree however: 1946 there was a band above the TTO knob similar to that of the Ranger Tech but lacking the Patent Info. The 48/49 version feature the notched center bar. And if you've got one lacking a date code, a band above the TTO knob and a notch, it would be from 1947.
They're great razors BTW.

40's style Super Speeds appear around 1947 and did not have the date code on the underside of the base until 1951. 1947 Super Speed can be identified by lack of a notch at the end of the center bar. $attachment-1.jpg

In 1948-50 the notched bar was introduced to make the auto-loading of the new dispenser blades easier.

As usual great lessons & resources here at B&B. I scored a 45-50 SS at an estate sale today. Always amazed at some of the conditions we find them in still after 60 years on.
