4 glue spots

I have Yellow 7o'clocks,Astra & Iridium blades that all have the
four glue spots. I had a sticking problem when opening a SuperSpeed with the spots up and left tacky residue again when I set them into the down position.
Does anyone remove the glue before using ?
I wondered if cleaning it off 1st would remove the coating too.
Or do you just clean out the razor when changing a blade?

soak the blade in a cup of rubbing alcohol with the paper on them and in the morning the glue (its actually wax) will come right off and stick to the wrapper.

Others suggest scraping it off with the old blade you're replacing but thats risky I think.

I'll try two things tonight. First do what you suggested and secondly put one in the freezer. Since it's wax then maybe like bubble gum on a shoe it will simply crack off.
Whats the worst that can happen, waste a blade?

I don't concern myself too much with the wax dots. Just plop the blade dots down in your razor. When you rinse your razor the hot water will melt the wax away.

If it is particularly heavy, I will just take the razor I am about to toss and (carefully) take the wax/glue whatever it is off by scraping it with the old blade. If is barely there, I will just let it go.

thanks everyone. I ran my razors with residue under hot water and grazed them with a soft toothbrush. All was perfect.
Nice to know it was wax. I had heard it was glue earlier.

Red pack IP's, and I think Sharks as well. There are most likely a raft of good blades I'm missing, but others will be more than willing to fill in the blanks. :biggrin1:

I'm not sure if you're talking about the Shark Stainless or Super Chrome, but I had a super chrome with so much glue it ran over the edge.. I just tossed the blade because I didn't want it to interfere with my shave.

Okay I stand corrected! But I was under the impression that Sharks didn't have wax dots... Guess I need more coffee! [Lindy tries to settle shaking hand]

@Wingnut you're right IP stands for Israeli Personna :)

The spots do not affect the shave.

Astra's, Gillette Yellows and Iridiums are 3 of the best blades out there. I don't remove the wax/glue before use and they still outperform most if not all of the blades that I've tried that did not have the spots. It's easier and safer to just clean the razor periodically.

Thanks all.

I know it doesn't affect the shave unless the glue/wax is on the cutting part of the blade...

I just don't like it getting all over my razors gumming them up, and it does happen. I've spent enough time cleaning the glue/wax off of the doors and for adjustables, off of the risers, to know it does happen. I had one, when I opened the doors, one of the doors hung/hesitated because the goop was holding it.

Yes, I love the Astra Superior Platinum blades. Excellent shaves from them. Just don't like the 4 dots of goop that end up stuck to my razors.

The wax spots are irritating but does not impact the shave. I just ignore them with I change blades. However, sometimes some "gunk" builds up and sticks to the spots if I don't rinse with hot water.
