3 or 4 passes

Sometimes after my 3rd pass I feel like I need another one, but wasn't sure if I'd be overdoing it if I add a 4th pass. How many passes do you guys do?

I will sometims go as few as Two passes, but usually a 3 pass shave. BBS is not that important to me normally, so normally DFS is more than enough to satisfy me.

You'd only be overdoing it if you ended up with razor burn or other damage - and you can only tell that if you try it and see. Personally, I usually do 3 passes, but I'll then do some buffing if there are any areas that need a bit more.

My everyday shave is one pass. I will go three passes for a special occasion, of it I think I might not be able to shave the next day for some reason, such as a traveling situation.

I do it with a Str8 most all the time, I do 3 pass's and when a very COLD water rinse, followed by any touch up as needed, then Pinuad clubmam and I finish with Noxema, very very smooth skin from thta regemen.

As many as I feel I need, which may change on a daily basis. There's nothing wrong in doing two passes or five, however you see fit.

If you keep a light hand, extra passes shouldn't increase irritation.

I do three, plus touchups. I tend to do ALOT of buffing on my chin, upper sideburns, and even above my lip. It may be excessive but only the skin below my jawline is sensitive, so why not? It seems I always always always have to touch up along my jawline. I shave every other day and I go for BBS every time. I've either gotten much better at shaving or my face has adjusted to double edge blades over that past 6 or so months.

I do 2 with touchup at the end. My second pass is really a combination of XTG and ATG, but it works for me. When I first started I was doing a 3 or 4 pass shave, but I was finding I was getting lots of irritation.

As my technique improved, that was when I was able to drop down with the number of passes.

This.

It takes what it takes until you reach the point that you are not getting any smoother... at that point, the only thing you are doing is increasing the risk of razor burn.
Depending on your face, beard, and technique, you might reach the point of "burn" before reaching DFS, or you might be able to pull a BBS through 5-passes with added blade buffing on the rough areas.
Most are somewhere in between.
