2019 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Maltese Falcon Razor

Number eight checking in, last shave of the year this morning, no intentions of purchasing anything. Signed up for the 2020 restraint, try to make it two years in a row.

Number 5 checking in. I'm certain I will not be buying anything during the remainder of the day and I'm certain I won't be buying anything before the 2020 sabbatical. Bring it on! This will be my 3rd year.

Ruckin #4 checking in. (spoiler - still in)... I pretty much 3017 all things in shaving. Looking at the logs I completed a Maggard Razor Tobaccco and Leather in Feb and am working on a brick of Vitos Super coco (and probably will be in 2022..) No AS kill this year - I started a bottle of RR baby blue Oct 29, 2017 and it is still going. I have made progress in using blades I am on my 44th blade of the year. I had several blades that I didn't last very many shaves (Blendax was 1 shave...) I am currently working on a Dorco ST301 and it still going strong at 44 shaves.

I will probably go to the store today to pick up some milk, pepper corns, and maybe some veggies of some sort to go with the salmon that will be served at dinner.

Ruckin.

Still in, not doing it next year, but I will only be buying things that have to be resupplied or replaced due to being worn out/broken from now on. I've got enough razors to last many lifetimes in my opinion, and the ones I like I like well enough not to chase anymore. So it's blades, soaps, and the odd brush from now on. Good luck to everyone in the next one!

Number 11, Vespasian, still in, right up on that finish line. Feels great.

I won't be in the 2020 sabbatical. I see no purpose in a massive buy in January, and then nothing. So I'll just buy things once in a way, as I see that I need them.

It's been fun, gentlemen.

I finished my shave for today. Decided to go silly and try the plastic Gillette Super Click I got for free with a blade order a few years ago. It was surprisingly nice and smooth. I didn't love the lightweight or the plastic noise it made, but I got a fine shave.

Still in and see no reason to fail this year. I might be getting a large number of things that I want to try as I narrow down the razors/brushes I want to keep and continue making my way through soaps. Been a great journey and fun to hear all the different approaches, successes, failures, and tribulations.

Well I was out after missing the first required check-in period. Too bad. I did make it through the entire year without making a purchase, however, which was the goal, so at least there's that.

Thought about joining the 2020 sabbatical, but think I'm going to pass. Part of the enjoyment of the hobby for me is the collecting and trying new products. Looking forward to enjoying those elements again next year.

A huge congrats to those that made it and hit all of the check-ins. And a big "well done" to Pepin for organizing everything - quite the commitment to have run this again in 2019.

Happy New Year all!!

As a failed participant several times over, I wish to congratulate all the survivors. You’re all inspiring—as I try again next year, I need inspiration!

Agent #3 JohnWick checking in and checking out as we put a bow on the year 2019.

I enjoyed sharing the experience with you fellas over the past 365 days. I learned a lot about my gear and myself over this time, and I trust it’ll have lasting benefits moving into 2020 and beyond.

Congratulations to all of those who succeeded and best of luck for those entering the 2020 sabbatical!

John

To @johnwick being agent #3 this year I was hoping to see ya signed up as #4 for next year (I liked the first three installements and will probably watch the next in the series). And to @pbrmhl hope to see you in 2020 either in person to share a coffee (or maybe even an IPA) and if ya run short on shave gear we can probably work something out there too.

Ruckin - having too much fun with a chainsaw. The bucking, splitting and cleanup tomorrow will suck.

I really enjoyed our time together this year. And my brother loved the poetry book I bought after the impromptu poetry reading! Let's do it again, though a proper pub would probably work better...

The countdown is on.
