I can't say that I am really disappointed by the sound. It's pretty close to what I expected from a small turbo engine. No F1 engine was ever designed to sound good and taking sound into the equation when writing an engine formula would be just as artificial as the double points farce.
 
I guess the old turbo era was a bit before my time. I grew up on the 90s V10s and ear splitting sounds that went with them.

Don't get me wrong: the engines sound ok and you can hear a lot of other sounds clearer now (eg tyre squeal, downshifts), but to me it just isn't F1. I'll probably come around by the time Barcelona rolls up though.
 
The last generation of v8's where also no match for the v10's and v12's from the nineties. With technological evolution, character is bound to be compromised.
