My rotation will grow to five razors if all works out and I like the new (used) two that I bought from a guy in Puerto Rico on Ebay in the early morning hours.
I don't collect and my wet shaving experience with razors for the first fifty years was with my Dad's Gillette Butterfly Style Razor. I guess what you guys are talking about today as Vintage Acquisitions. For the last four years, after I gifted my son the two generation Gillette, I have been using a Merkur 34C, Muhle OC Sophist with Bog Oak Handle and a Muhle R89 Head with an African Blackwood Handle. Each razor gives a smooth performance but each razor is distinctly different in the way it shaves and how I have to handle it. As well as it shaved over the years I do not miss the Gillette. Design changes and Craftmanship has improved razors over the years. I often wonder what the fascination with Vintage Gillettes is on the forums but to each his own. I also used one of Dad's three piece Gillettes during the first half century of shaving...... It did not shave as well as the Butterfly.
A short time ago I wondered about Joris Razors on this forum and was wisely advised to try out a FaTip before investing heavily in a Joris. The Ebay purchase this morning will give me that opportunity as well as having one of Muhle's more aggressive designs to shave with.
The Seller described the R41 as not being a 2013 Model, but instead a 2012 United Kingdom Muhle R41 which he purchased from Rugby, UK. He said the razor is not as aggressive as an earlier 2011 model. I read on West Coast Shaving that the difference in 2013 and earlier models is dispelled as a rumor by the Muhle Company. The FaTip is Nickel coated which makes me think it might be a Picolo Model.
I welcome any input that forum members might wish to give me about their experiences with these models. I have read mostly good comments on the forums. The negatives have made me wonder about the shaver's technique, blade choice and care and quite importantly..... the quality and mix of protective lather they prepared their face with. I'm looking forward to these two new experiences.
