What's new

2 brush questions.

So I have been wet shaving for about 7 months now and absolutely love it. However, to get started I purchased the VDH Luxury Set. This is where my first question comes in.
1) The pure badger brush that came with the VDH set has worked out quite well, but at 7 months old, it's still shedding . Everything I have read has said that this problem should have stopped months ago. After each shave, I rinse the brush out until the water runs clear, I gently wipe the tips on a towel back and forth to help keep its shape, and I hang it, tips down, to dry. Is their something that I can do about this? Am I doing something wrong, or is it the brush?

My other question involves getting a new brush.
2) As long as the problem with the previous question is the brush and not me, I have been looking at getting a higher quality brush. I'm thinking maybe a best or super badger brush. I use both soaps and creams equally so I want a good all around brush. I'm looking at Vulfix and Simpson mainly. I'm looking to spend $60 or less on my second brush. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks. Never thought about contacting VDH. WhippedDog looks really interesting and affordable. Any suggestions on size parameters?

I bowl lather unless I'm using stick and have a pretty solid mix of both creams and soaps. T&H, TOBS, and AOS for creams, while VDH, Trumpers, and Mama Bear for soap.

I started with that same VDH brush and it also shed for several months. It stopped shedding when I started buying better brushes; though, that may be because I stopped using it.

In my opinion, that brush isn't worth the time and effort it would take to contact VDH about it and possibly get a replacement (chances are the replacement won't be any better). I think this will become obvious to you once you use another brush. I can't really recommend a next brush for you because anything in the price range you mentioned is going to be amazing for you compared to the VDH. Don't be afraid of used brushes in the BST forum; that would be my only advice.

Raise your ante a little and buy a Simpson Colonel X2L about $75. It's the last brush you will ever need. (It won't be the last one you buy though:biggrin1:)

I'm three brushes in, and pleased with what I've acquired (with some budgetary restraints). I'm thinking though... if I had it to do all over again, my choices might've been a little different. If I were to go after a new brush today, at your price point... it would definitely, certainly, (maybe) :) be... a Simpsons Berkeley 46B (in Best). It's gotten some great press here. Just a suggestion, fwiw.
