What's new

1960 Tech: my first vintage razor!

Pretty excited about my first vintage razor: a 1960 Gillette Tech Ball End. Got it Friday and have used it twice: I cannot believe how comfortable it is. I've been learning with a Merkur 33C and while it's not a snarling dog, I've discovered it's a lot more aggressive than my new Tech. I'm experimenting with blades for the Tech (tried a Lord Platinum and a Stainless Shark), but I think I've found my razor. :biggrin1:

By the way: I highly recommend Sealover811 on eBay. A great seller!

The Tech is a wonderfull little razor, it's cheap, solid as a rock and easy to replace. (It's the Lee-Enfield of razors)

Great start to the world of vintage Gillettes! Congrats. Next, the Super Speed.

Just ordered one myself, from the same seller. I'm super excited to see that package come in the mail. Thanks for the seller recommendation Lightning Boy.

Very nice! I am already interested in investing in more razors. Vintage would be nice! It seems like they are everywhere so I will be waiting to buy one. My wife and I also like to check out craft fairs, garage sales, antique shops, etc.

Good find, and that's awesome that it works out really well for you!

I have 2 Techs almost identical to the one you've got there (love my gold plated one). Best Tech/blade combo for me is the Crystal Red diamond Israeli blades with that razor. Each blade is lasting over 30 days of continuous use. It is like those blades were made on planet Krypton.

I love the old gillettes, there's so many of them around and available at good prices. I'd like to make a wager with you that you end up buying more razors than just this one! (been there, done that)

Welcome to the world of vintage! I started out with a travel tech and a flare tip superspeed. The tech is my favourite of the two so far, and I just grabbed a ball end like you've got off the BST here. Still waiting for it come in the mail, but i'm excited.

Who knew this would be so much FUN! :cheerful:

I used my no date code ball-end Tech this morning. It was nice to have a mild shave, after getting some irritation during the prior shave. Techs never go out of style, there'll always be a place for them.

After only three shaves with this Tech, I'm already trolling the 'Bay for another razor. I've heard good things about the Krona and it's on my radar, but I'm wondering what would be another good TTO model for someone who greatly appreciates the mildness of the Tech?

Wish I'd had the foresight to start with a vintage razor: that Merkur 33C is gonna be collecting dust in a drawer now.:001_cool:

40s superspeed would be a great candidate.

Isn't it amazing that razors made over 50 years ago continue to perform flawlessly? Well made instruments.

It would seem razors and guitars are very much alike. I'm new to wet shaving but an old hand at guitars. They don't make guitars like they used to. Same could be said for razors.

Flare tip Super Speed would be right up your alley. Lots of the same attributes that the Tech has; cheap, easy to find, and well-made.
