$150-$250 Brush

Ready to buy a good brush. Rooney, Simpson, Plisson, Kent or what? So far have used only cheap suff. Not familiar with the big boys. Need help:biggrin1:

Custom Shavemac D01 2-band with extreme flat top - only if you are a face latherer though. I've tried them all and for me, this is the best of them all.

The Shavemac VLB is interesting. I'm just not quite daring enough to try it. That said, something from their range would be a solid "first top shelf" brush.

Check out Savile Row as well - the 3722 or 3824 would seem like a good fit.

If you bowl lather and use creams, then I would take back my suggestion of the D01 extreme flat top. It is really dense and requires a lot of product to get enough lather for 3 passes. Would eat through your creams pretty quick.

The shavemac 177 silvertip gets a lot of good reviews and may be better suited towards what you do. Also the Kent BK4 or BK8 are great brushes for bowl lathering creams (Vie-Long 16510 also).

You, sir, need to take a long hard look at the Rooney Heritage brushes. In this price range, if you are a soap user, I highly recommend the small Rooney Heritage Beehive in their two-band super knot. It lathers like crazy and is a pleasure use.

I'm very pleased with my Kent BK2, it has a more fan-shaped knot and is a bit stiffer than the BK4 which has the same sized knot (23mm)
Works very well with both soaps and creams, great for bowl lathering.

Go with the best and get a Simpsons brush. A Simpsons Tulip 3 from what I have read is an awesome brush with creams or soaps. Good luck!

Brushes in that price range are really for the enthusiast, and if you don't know what you want - and really want it - its not worth it imo.

this is an excellent point. you can step up into a high quality brush without spending over $150. Even the chubby 2 in best you can get for appx. $140 from west coast shaving with the b&b discount code. if you like smaller/medium size brushes, the Colonel X2L is $65 w/ a 22mm knot. Feel free to spend as much as you want, but you don't have to spend that much to get a seriously nice brush.

If you want to try a two-band at a reasonable price, go over to bullgoose and check out the Simfix Grosvenor LE.

A few years ago I would have said this isn't a true statement. Close to 4 years in this hobby and I have to say it is indeed GOOD Advice and very true. I wasted a lot of coin chasing brushes.
