Trumper Sandalwood Soap

I know there are a lot of guys that like this soap, but I am going to give an honest review of my experience.

Compared to other soaps, its on the pricey said. It is Trumpers, so yeah.

I didn't find it very moisturizing. I could never produce very good lather either.

As much as I wanted to like the soap, the #1 thing that turned me off of this soap was the scent. It smells like a hotel bath soap I smelled once, and when I immediately made that connection, it was a let down. Maybe it's just me, not every sniffer is created equal. But I have smelled waaay more acceptable sandalwood scents than Trumpers and even paid less. Oh well.

With that said and the aforementioned attributes, I don't give it a high quality rating. Maybe I got a fluke puck. I don't know. Sample the scent before you buy, that's about the best advice i can give.

I have been using this soap for 3 days, and love the scent. It is the closest I have found to the CE Sandalwood, which I loved. The soap works well, except I am having problems building a lather which lasts. Don't know if that is my hard water, or what. I have used shave soaps off and on for over 20 years, and have had this problem only once before, with the Classic Shaving brand. With the Trumpers I have to re soap several times because the lather virtually disappears after a couple of minutes. However, despite that, I get a great shave, and have no problems with the moisturizing. The scent stays around faintly for a couple of hours, which is just the way I like it. If the lathering disappearance doesn't improve after a couple more tries, I may buy the cream for the scent, or try the Taylor's sandalwood.

This is an excellent soap. It's not as creamy as some of the other soaps I use (like Cade), but it gets the job done, and well. I think that where it really shines is in the scent department. It's very clean and fresh for a sandalwood. I have to charge my brush twice to get a good lather with it, but I have very hard water, so it's not a real strike against the soap. The bowl is great too.

Well...this is the first soap I've ever used, and unless someone literally hands me another type, I doubt I'll ever have any good reason to experiment with others. Aside from it being a touch costly, and sometimes feeling a little bit dry afterwards, this soap is perfect for my needs...especially the scent (if there had been an 11, I'd have picked it for the scent). May look into that skin food stuff to see if that helps the dryness...which has never been bad, but wouldn't hurt to be a little softer after all was said and done.

I really like this product. It has a pleasant scent and goes nicely with the sandalwood skin food. Using the skinfood as a preshave, then soap for the shave, and the skin food again as aftershave, provides a really nice moisturizing shave. The soap produces a thick, rich lather akin to other soaps in its price range. I strongly recommend trying this one out.

GFT Soaps were the first I tried and I thought I had since (like the gentleman above) "grduated" to creams. But yesterday I dug out the old Trumpers and gave it a whirl. I've always loved the idea of soaps as more right and manly, rather than faffing about with a cream but got better results with ANY cream until yesterday. Very nice and you don't really need anything else, to be honest. Price? Ok, a bit pricey, but cheaper than a cream in the long run....:001_smile

This is a great shave soap and is in my regular rotation. The scent is superb, the best sandalwood scent out there (I wish the cologne smelled the same, unfortunately it does not). Easy to whip up a great lather and provides excellent shaves for me. It's a bit drying though in the winter months and I tend to use it much more during the spring/summer.

I'm sure I don't have the breadth of experience that others on B&B have, but this is hands down my favorite soap (thus far). The scent, the lather ... just great. The only downside for me is, as drumana noted, that it occasionally leaves my face a little on the dry side.

When I first got into wet shaving Lee put together a kit for me including GFT sandalwood soap. I tried it for my first ever DE shave and was dissapointed. Five months later I decided to give it another try. Basically I decided I was a cream guy..

Well last night I gave it a whirl what a great shave super fluffy thick slick lather. Whips up better than any GFT cream. Nedless to say I am hooked and will be using this soap in my rotation from now on.

I started brush shaving with the classic soap. The Trumper by comparison is GREAT!!! I lather directly on the face and have enough lather for four passes using my DOVO olive wood brush. I like the scent. The lather is VERY rich. In comparison - the other soap I used was sudsy. I think it is WELL worth the price. The cake of soap is rather large and seems to last a long time.

Yet another glorious GFT shaving soap. Excellent lather, smooth shave and incredibe scent. Perfect for a relaxed fall/winter shave. My favorite GFT soap.

My favourite shaving soap of all, by a long way. It lathers richly, the lather is thick, and lasting, lets the blade come close, lubricates, softens the stubble, in fact does all that is expected of a shaving soap.

The scent takes it beyond this, into the realms of facial indulgence, woody, dry, slightly spicy, subtle but lasting, a lovely smell to have under your nose in the morning, it makes me appreciate having woken up. The smell stays on your skin, a very masculine scent, truly luxurious and somehow extremely civilised.

The wooden bowl looks the part, and I have no trouble charging the brush on it, you only get lather everywhere if its too wet.

Highly reccomended.

This is one of the first shaving soaps I used. The scent is very pleasing, although quite unlike other sandalwood-scented products. Nice and lubricating lather is produced with ease and provides a very close shave. Needs help in the moisturizing dept though.

Well, with perhaps one exception I am not a fan of Trumper's creams. A lot has been said about their soaps, however, so I thought I would give one a try. This scent is completely different from their sandalwood cream or cologne. I am not sure if it is just the matrix it is in or the scent is deliberately different, but it is a very welcome change. The cologne is extremely sweet and (dare I say) overpowering. The soap has a very dry, woody, masculine scent that is actually quite understated.

And the shave? Top notch. Very thick and rich lather in the classic tallow-based model, and very slick. Shaves like a dream.

Sure it is expensive, that is my only knock against it. I have a unexplainable liking for those wooden bowls, despite them being a major PITA.

I would rank this as good as Tabac, Harris, etc. in terms of shave quality. Very good stuff.
