What started out as a lark is now a learning experience. Curses to education!!!

I did not know that there were Schick Kronas with plastic tips. All three of mine are metal-tipped.

Obviously, the only solution is for me to buy every existing DE razor in the world, spend the rest of my life holed up in a cabin in Montana, and categorize all the differences (with proofing by Messrs. Krumholz, Guido, and Eye).

Now, where did I put that winning lootery ticket . . . .

Just so you can see the difference.

As far as Krona varients, there are at least two more. I have two that say "Schick" on both silo doors. One has the name in very plain upper case letters (similar to the lettering on the one in the picture that says "Schick" and "Krona" on it). The other one has it in a more stylish font and it's in lower case. Neither of these have the "Krona" name on them at all but they are essentially the same razor as the black tipped one in Guido's picture.

Trying to keep up with all the varients of Schicks is almost as bad as with Gillettes.

Regards,
Tom

I have one that has "Schick" on one silo door and "Krona" on the other; another that has "Schick" on both doors; and the third has nothing on either silo door.

I have no idea what that means or if it relates to dates, aggressiveness, etc.

Well, it looks like there are many variations and/or combinations of metal/plastic tips and plain/lettered silo-doored Kronas. Your mission, if you don't wimp out like a panty wearing girly-man, is to attempt to collect them all. All in favor of Hoos taking on this mission say "Aye" ... opposed "Nay" ... Ayes have it.

You know, I haven't seen a Schick Krona in a long, long time in my antique/flea market/junk store jaunts.

Everything I've seen in the past few months are either Gillettes or Gems. Or the one Solingen I saw about a month ago for $45 that an antiquer bought and is now "on sale" in his cabinet for $145. I'm beginning to learn the ebb and flow of the antique/collectibles trading in this area and getting to know the dealers. It's fascinating.

So, I'll get to work on it. Prepare now for the First Annual 2092 Edition of The Krona Komparison Guide. Mark those calendars!

(I do love my Kronas. Haven't brought them out in a while. Maybe it's time.)

I have not seen any Kronas in my antique area, either. Lots of Gillettes, though (which is why my collection is Gillette all the way). I've only been collecting for a couple of weeks and already the man in "The Olde Store and Fudge Shoppe" knows what I'm coming for as soon as I walk in the door. And it ain't the fudge...

Also, the prices on most of the ones I've found have been less than 20 dollars. The straights, when they can be found, are going for a bit more, but DE's are fairly cheap. But they aren't in very good shape (mainly corroded and rusty) either.

What the heck, I need to increase my post count:

1956 B2 Gillette Red Tip Super Speed
1957 C2 Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed
1949 Gillette Super Speed w/case
No-date chrome Gillette Tech
No-date gold Gillette Tech
1957 C2 chrome Gillette Tech

The Red Tip is my "go to" razor. Other than the desire to try an Merkur HD, and possibly a black-handled SS, I doubt I'll be buying another razor. RAD just hasn't hit me as hard as the other ADs.

My small, Humble collection:

59 Fatboy
60 Fatboy
58 Flare tip Super Speed
85 Black Long Handle Adjustable

Enough to be going on with I think.

I'm still sane, and therefore just own two DEs :

*Merkur 25C (Long Classic, open comb), used as my everyday razor.
*Merkur 42 (Classic 1904, straight bar), used as my travel razor.

I must admit that I'm quite looking forward to the new open comb Mühle, but for now I'm fighting off RAD quite effectively
