OCtober 2014

31st OCtober 2014
Just like to thank Shutterbug for organizing this thread and updating the OCtober spreadsheet. He has done a great job again
Last razor for Open Comb OCtober is:
Kept this one till last!
It's an English New Improved head off an English Tuckaway with Bulldog handle, personalized with my B&B name by an old engraver friend of mine.
EJ Sandalwood soap face lathered with Semogue boar brush.
Voskhod blade.
Proraso splash.

Ah, I remember this one from last year. Lovely razor, glad to see it again.

31 OCtober 2014 - Day 31/Shave 31

ATT R2/Titan
Personna Lab Blue blade
Rudy Vey keyhole brush
Mike's Hungarian Lavender soap
Ogallala Bay Rum
BBS

Another great shave with the ATT today. Close, smooth and comfortable.

I have had a great time this month seeing all y’all’s razors and using several razors I had not used since last OCtober. This reinforced my feelings about most of my razors and certainly about my top two - the Aristocrat and NEW LC.

The one razor I have come to appreciate more was the ATT R2 Titan. As I have used it more, I have come to like it more. It is efficient and, once you find its angle, comfortable.

A couple of other razors I have had my feelings confirmed about are the MMOC and NEW SC. With both I find I get more nicks, cuts and razor rash than I care to deal with. Therefore, they will likely be this year's winners of my "That's it, you're done" award. Last year that award went to my Lunawerke Old Type clone – pictured below.

I appreciate all y’all participating in the fun this October. The participation was way more than last year’s 35 pages & 694 posts and there was lots of razor porn to look at to spur your RAD. Did you find something out about your razors this month? Feel free to share your impressions on your OC razors here.

As noted earlier, I will be posting final stats next week. My next project is to grow an epic ‘stache. I have had a rather tame and trimmed ‘stache since 1976, now I am going to see what I can do with it. I have some Firehouse ‘stache wax on the way…

Shutterbug, I would like to thank you for creating this thread, and administering it so well. Every day in have looked forward to both participating in the festivities, and reviewing all the statistics. Not to mention all the photos of so many cool razors. Kudos to you sir! And again, thanks!

Day 31 (Shave 31):
ATT Atlas H2 / Astra SP blade
RazoRock "Amici" brush
RazoRock XXX-t soap
RazoRock alum stick
RazoRock XXX AS milk

Hi,

Nice. But I don't see the Dermagard blade in there. They have an OC-like strip along the cutting edges so it cannot nick. They come preloaded, so maybe you have a used razor.... ;)

Oh. My shave. Ending as I began, even though I do not need BBS today. Both the Fasan and the Old Type. :)

Last day! Since I don't have a holiday-appropriate razor I went with my oldest - Single Ring, Voskhod blade, RV brush. First time with a Voskhod, think I liked it.

Many thanks to Shutterbug57 for keeping track and inspiring me to jump into the OC world. Think I'll go back to a nonOC tomorrow just for the heck of it, but OCs will definitely be the major presence in my rotation.

OCtober 31
Shave 31
OC razors used this month: 31

Heppenstall OC
aka Barbasol OC
The only difference between the Heppenstall and the Barbasol was the brand name printed on the razor.
This razor was presumably a precursor to the SB floating head (which is a better razor IMO). The shave was nicely aggressive, but not as smooth as a floating head. More testing is needed.

OCt 31:

ATT Kronos R2 w/ Wilkinson Sword, AOS Ocean Kelp pre-shave, Cremo SC, RR XXX AS.

I've got to admit this has been a fun month. Thanks, Shutterbug for organizing it and keeping the tallies up to date. But I'm anxious to get back to using all my other razors, particularly the slants and my Techs.

SOTD; 26th - 31st October, completed the last 6 shaves of October with the Fatip Piccolo and Rapira SS combination. All good shaves.
I may persevere with the Fatip with different blades a while longer.

OCtober 31 - Shave 31.
I received a new razor from my Ebay purchases yesterday and shaved with a Canadian Single Ring this morning. A very good shave, aggressive and close. Not as smooth as the New Improved or the New, and a little more aggressive than my other Old Type's. It has been a great month. My last Ebay purchase is at the Postal Outlet. I will pick it up today and shave with it tomorrow, and then get back into a regular rotation of all of my razors, I still have razors I have not used, so I might have to do theme weeks to have at least 1 shave with every razor in my collection.

I'm just in to post my last two shaves before the month is over (at least in this part of the world).

October 28, Shave #21 -

Razorock Jaws
Lord Platinum
Godrej Rich foam
Vega Nylon brush
Clubman musk

October 31, Shave #22

US style English NEW LC
Lord Platinum
Godrej Rich foam
Vega Nylon brush
Clubman musk

The English NEW LC amazes me every time I use it. Hands down, it's the best razor I have - shaves even better than the RFB and the Deluxe. I got a superb near BBS today in just 1.5 pass on a 62 hour growth. Zero irritation too.

I want to add my thanks to Shutterbug57 for starting and administering the thread! I've developed a new appreciation for some of my OCs.

Thanks to the participants, it's been great seeing the variety of OC razors!

For tomorrow's shave, I think I'll go with the Mergress. Missed that one this month.

OCtober 30, shave 30. LC New, ASCO (1st shave)

No name boar brush, ASCO blade and Cella in a travel stick. Only the Cella gave me satisfactory performance.

OCtober 31, shave 31. Same shave, different day. Now to get back to a decent brush and blade.

Thanks OCtober. I had fun.

Shutterbug57 - that chart has grown longer than I could have ever imagined. You deserve a standing ovation to persevere and maintain that to the perfect accuracy.:a14::ouch1:

The OCtober fun ends here, but November will be great too, have a lot to experiment with the R41 Spitfire, getting to know the Popular #45 and the Canadian #77 a bit better, etc ...

Thank you Shutterbug, and thanks to all participants, I truly enjoyed your pics of all these OC beauties!
