I just use a rice bowl from Walmart. The key word is “bowl”. Nothing special required. Just use something comfortable in hand.Waiting on my lather bowl from timeless.
What lather bowl do you use? Which has been the best lather bowl for you if you use one.
Ive realised that face lathering might have been causing my skin sensitivity. Changed to a synthetic brush though which has really helped.

Nice.I was always a face latherer but I am now coming around to the bowl method. I received a free stainless steel ikea bowl with an order from Vshod and used it with some samples.
I found that bowl lathering provides the following benifits. Better post shave feel because it is easier in the skin. Better shave as there is lots of lather readily available to be generous in subsequent passes. Better shave experience because the lather can be kept warm. I float the bowl in a sink of warm water between passes.
I am still looking for the ideal bowl but have found that the ideal shape to be as close as possible to a half sphere. This seems to engage the sides and keeps the lather in the bowl rather than over the sides. The ideal size for me is somewhere in the range of 90-120mm and max depth of 60mm. Metal seems to work best at transferring heat to the lather from the sink between passes. Copper would probably be the best as it is very conductive.
If the ridges make as much difference as people say, the below bowl may well be close to the ideal set up. It’s pricey but would look good in the bathroom!

Very nice. Does it make a sound when you make lather in it? Sort of adds to the idea of shaving as a time for meditation!Yesterday I got my singing bowl to use for making lather. It is huge. 5" bowl weighing it at almost 2 pounds.
I started a thread on this today, barring a late hail Mary from someone, I'll be ordering the heavy copper one in the next few days..I quite like my ceramic lather bowl from Captain's Choice. I'd like the try the copper version some day
Outstanding, let me know how it goes! Didn't know Maggard stocked them at all!I just got the regular weight rolled edge copper bowl today. Nice weight and feels very sturdy. I was going to get the heavy one, but maggards only had this one in stock when I ordered. I'm happy with it it! Can't wait to try it out tonight!
Love Saponifcio Varesino.....go for it!! You tried any of their Cosmo range?I have a timeless bowl, a PAA scuttle, a singing bowl, a mug and a suribachi bowl. I’ve begun face lathering. I’m very curious about the SV Shaving Grail...but it’s $60...View attachment 1060394
