Zatoichi

am I the only zatoichi fan out here ?? perchance if there are others,do you have any episodes NOT available through netflix ?? I think this is one of the greatest cinematic treasures ever....shintaro katsu is a riot in these...

Whoa, Deja vu. I just saw the trailer for the new Zatoichi movie that is supposed to be released this weekend. I saw the Zatoichi movie that came out in maybe 2004 and like it a lot. Never knew there was a series, I will have to check those out.

I did not know they were working on this.hope it shows in the states.I recognize some of the old men in the trailer, they were YOUNG men in the katsu series..this actor playing zatoichi looks too clean cut, zatoichi was a homely guy,and a little slobbish, but kids loved him,and he always got the most beautiful girls..I hope this works though,we need a good zatoichi !!

Yeah! Zatoichi!!

I really liked the 2003 Takeshi Kitano movie version, too.

And in 2008 there was another take on the story called Ichi with a female blind swords... person. That's worth checking out as well.

The Zatoichi story is a real franchise in Japan.

Yeah! I loved the Samurai Saturdays. The blind swordsman was great. I think the whole reason the movies worked was the fact that the guy was not a Japanese version of...insert Hollywood pretty boy like Brad Pitt. He was not especially tall. He was not chiseled from alleged years in eight hour per day workouts at some temple. He liked to drink Sake. It was such a different feel from the goofy stuff I see at the video store like Ong Bak and the like. I will have to check out my Netflix instant play to see if they are available. Thanks for reminding me.

Regards, Todd

NO kidding ! zatoichi was the anti- pretty boy...this latest actor just does not fit the role....he really does look like a japanese tommy cruise...you hit it on the head !

the Kitano version had its moments but the cgi blood ruined it for me. 'twas a shame too cuz i'm a huge Kitano fan.

I agree wholeheartedly, cgi blood fests are for schlock grade z flicks...lady snowblood fell prey to this also...lone wolf and cub was great tho....

Agreed! I still like the Beat Takeshi movie, but I could have done without the CGI.

I'm a big fan of Lone Wolf and Cub, too!

thw worst part about the lone wolf and cub movies is that they only made a few !! the lone wolf was shintaro "zatoichi" katsu's biological brother !!
