I'm a face latherer; I use an Omega 49 boar brush and Proraso/CO Bigelow cream. I love my shaving stuff but find that my lather is pretty cool and I think making it warm would be awesome, so is there a cheaper brush scuttle you all would recommend?
I found this at goodwill for $5, it is made in Germany and works very well at keeping my brush and lather warm throughout my shave. I believe a similar object can be found at Cost Plus Imports (I think that was the name) for a low price. If you want a purpose built brush scuttle then the price goes up significantly unless you have a local potter hungry for work.
I ordered one of these when I first started shaving thinking it would work like a regular scuttle. I was thoroughly disappointed as the lathering area is really really small and usually spills out into the water tank.
But recently I've been doing a lot more face lathering (my love of boars has taken over and they've become amazingly soft) So I fill it up with hot water, soak my razor and brush while I shower, face lather and leave the brush in that compartment while I'm shaving. It keeps the brush and lather super warm and makes for a very pleasant shave.
I typically only use this when face lathering though.
Robert Becker 001, so large that there is no spills. Only scuttle I have tried but I would never settle for anything less than this. its perfect to build a nice amount of lather and heats it up for my entire shave.
