What's new

YOUR 1st one thousand blade purchase.

I figured prices would only go up in future years so I bought 1000 Feathers. It didn't break the bank and I'm sure they will be put to good use. Hopefully by me.

Anyone else commit to 10+ years on a single blade choice?

Not quite 10 years worth but i have been buying 5 packs of Korean blades almost everyday at the dollar store when i go to lunch. Skip a few little debbie snacks and grab a pack of blades...Bob

Pictures. Or it didn't happen. In other words, don't believe you.

Nice. Very nice.
Never had the guts to go for this size at once. I got there (close to 900 Feathers now) in smaller steps. :biggrin1:

Enjoy them.

First 100 purchase, Voskhod. Second buy, English Wilkinson. Third, Feather. Next will probably be SI (most likely Polsilver as that seems to be the only one available). I may pull the trigger on Rapira as well, given the price. But after one incredibly smooth and close first shave, the second was rather ordinary. Still, if they give one GREAT shave they may be worth it. I have a few more of those left to try before deciding.

Labs are also a definite possibility.

The English Wilkies were really just a drunken impulse buy. They seem OK, but I don't think they will be a regular blade for me. I haven't given up on them yet, but I see many PIFs and trades in their future.

Oh, 1.000 blade purchase. Why did i think it said 100 blade purchase? Silly me.

About a year and a half ago I purchased 1000 Perma-sharp Supers (cardboard box; made in the P&G plant in St. Petersburg, Russia) on ebay for $175 (currently selling for $194). For me, a GREAT purchase. At about the same time I also purchased 480 Gillette Yellows from Connaught when he was selling them in that quantity for less than 17 cents each (delivered), which was another great purchase. I need to write in my will that if I don't live a long, healthy life, these blades need to be donated to the B&B community.

I have more than 1000 of Polsilver Super Iridium, 700 Personna Red, about 600 GSB, 500 Rapira Stainless, and about 700-800 other blades.

Not a single brand for me but last count put me in the 4k range for blades. I can say that I have not been looking for blades in a while :001_smile

Wow! Talk about commitment! I thought I was out of control with about 150 or so. I use about 43 blades or so per year. The 150 I have should last me 3 years!

that's serious commitment there for sure, I thought I was a bit off when I bought 400 Feathers. But it makes sense if you really can store them go for it! If you can find them they've been reasonable price if you do a bit of searching.

I have not made a 1000 blade commitment. I do have close to 1000 blades now, but they are a mixture of 200 Polisilver SI's, 250 or so GSB's, 275 approx Voshkods, 100 Astra SP's, 100 Israeli Crystals and some assorted other blades. The only one of the lot that I would definitely buy if I found the right deal for 1000 would be the GSB's. I've only shaved twice no with the Polisilver SI's, but so far I really like them. Similar to the GSB's in sharpness and smoothness.

I took a flyer on the SI's and bought 200 of them for $50, which is a good deal. Whenever I see the GSB's in the BST for anywhere close to $20/100 I try to pick them up. I can always get them for $21/100 online, but I would rather give someone here $20 if at all possible. The Voshkods right now are the best buy of any of these blades. $15/100 on average + shipping. Now that I've lived with them for a while they are just slightly less sharp than the GSB, but perhaps slightly smoother. It's strange. They are better in certain razors as opposed to others while the GSB seems to adapt to anything.

What a strange obsession we have with blades. If we were all forced to use one brand of blade I imagine we would still all find a way to get decent shaves. We would be focusing on our prep or lather techniques or other products to help with razor glide. Half the fun of this hobby is all the options available to us and sorting through all of them.
