Yew Natural Handmade Slingshot

This was a rough cut, uneven Yew fork that I acquired a few years ago. A few medical setbacks delayed me working on it but I finally got around to it last week.

All hand files, rasps, saws, sanding. I had to use a power drill for the lanyard hole and a spindle sander to remove the excess brass tubing though. Two Part Epoxy used to fill cracks.

Sanded to 3k and then a Danish Oil finish.

Beautiful end results... The Danish oil brings out the grain so nicely... Well done.

Ha. If only you knew the half of it.

With that said, I ALWAYS wear eye protection when shooting and will have to teach myself "both eyes open" aiming this year. Things are going well in my long term recovery.

I'm always on the lookout for "Y" shaped hardwoods. Standing dead trees are the best to harvest as they don't take months or years to dry and I'm not a fan of force drying them in the microwave.

Thanks! The funny thing is, they all basically shoot the same. Some of the "Slingshot Legends" just cut the ends off, added some inner tubes and shot rocks.

Mine don't even scratch the surface of exotic materials and inlays. I try to balance a bit of "modern" and "vintage", using only hand tools and just the wood off the tree.
