Yet another newbie question: what is "knot size"?

I see brushes being described with respect to "knot size". Can someone please explain what this means?

Welcome. The knot size refers to the size or measurement of the base of badger hair bundle where it meets the handle, and is measured in mm.

When a brush head is made its knotted or tied at the base. The diameter of the brush head = knot size 23mm 19mm 26mm are all common sizes.
