Yates Winning VS Henson Al13+

Beet her to it!
I have both and like both. I prefer the Henson aggressive quite a bit more. @StewB prefers the Winning quite a bit more. So we cancel each other out. ;)

Get one if you are curious and let us know what YOU think. You could be the tie breaker.
I mean, if you guys are really THAT locked up on this, I guess I’ll be the Hero of this story and cast the tie breaking vote.. I suppose it’s my duty. I see no way around it. I had a feeling this would happen and placed the order 40 min ago…

Is it swell time?
Interested in hearing your thoughts @No1Up. I’ll admit I have neither of these razors, but I am fascinated to understand their similarities and differences.

A Henson would be hard to beat. I have the AL13 in all aggressions, and I have the Ti22 ++. I would like to have a brass Yates, but then, I think, how could a razor be any better than what I already have?

Anyone try both? I’m so so happy with the Henson, I don’t NEEEED the Yates, but, I also don’t not NEEED the Yates. Do you see the problem here?
I have both. I'll go on record as saying, get the Yates Winning.

I first got the Henson AL++, and when I did, I was impressed. It is a well-designed, well-made razor that gives a very nice shave without much worry or effort. It is a quite nice razor.

There were always little... not, annoyances, exactly, but things about the Henson that were less than perfect. The weight, the feel of the handle, the "suction" feel on the face, the way I always got a DFS but never, ever BBS. Never really got cuts, but often a bit of burn or slight weeping.

On the advice of several people, and after looking at some reviews, I jumped and got a Winning Ti razor, and... wow... when I use it, I realize that this is what the Henson aspires to. The Yates is just superlative, and superior in all ways to me. The right heft. The perfect handle feel. The glide and the angle on the face. BBS with no gaps or stubble spots from the very first use. I was more than impressed.

I went back several times to compare the two, just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I tried about 30 different blades and five or six different soaps to see. I was not -- the Yates wins every time. When I use the Henson, I'm now a little resentful about it, because I know I could have a better and more pleasant shave with the Winning.

If I had to use the Henson for the rest of my life, would it be the end of the world? No, of course not. The Henson is (as I said before) a very nice razor. It always does a good job. It is plug-and-play, and a solid choice. I've relegated my Henson to be my travel razor because it is decent (but I'd be less upset if I lost it). But my daily driver is now and for the foreseeable future my Ti Winning.

At some point, though, you realize that the difference between well made-tools is to a large degree a matter of personal preference. Henson and Yates both make excellent products, and are by all rights good people running good companies in Canada and the USA respectively. You can feel good about using either, and I can say from personal experience you will get really good shaves with both. It's like the difference between chocolate and vanilla -- who's to say that one is objectively better, when they're both that good and so well loved. You'll find reasonable people on both sides of the aisle.

For me, I found my personal best, and for that, I'm happy -- I like the Henson, but I am in love with my Yates Winning. Now I am free to worry about soaps, brushes, blades, splashes instead!

What if the Henson was Ti22++? the Winning is no longer made in Titanium, at least not right now. I have the SS on pre order. I have the Henson Ti22++ on the way.
