I was reviewing some WWII history on youtube when I stumbled on this film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIgpluBCzpI
The interesting bit is at 6.20. The whole clip is worth watching as it is a reminder of what our forefathers had to endure to secure the peace that we often take for granted. We Europeans am also deeply endepted to all American servicemen who came over to Europe to fight a war that was not theirs. All the while the politicians and citizens of my country stood and watched the events unfold huddled behind their shield of neutrality. A journalist once asked a german officer why they did not invade Sweden, to which he answered: "Why should we? They do everything we ask of them!".
