What's new

Would Johan be proud? (picture heavy again)

I should have been sleeping a while ago, but was making progress and couldn't stop! So I finished up my second ever razor resto! here are some pics, and thanks to ALL of you for amazing advice and tutorials.

This was a scales-on resto, so the scales only look so so, and around the pins it isn't perfect. Last picture is a comparo of my first restore to this one. The before pictures were after I did some polishing with mother's, so they looked worse before that even. This one looks worse in pictures, it came out just perfect in my opinion.

The rest.... Sorry I left smudge on the blade with my dirty fingers lol.

As you can tell, I'm very happy. Way better than the first time around. take your time people! I went from 320 grit all the way up to 2500 then to polishing with mother's billet. I had some bad lighting on the first 'after' pics but there really is no pitting at all, just a bit of scratching around the pin area. I got some really tough pits out.

Commments/criticisms welcome! Any ideas on how to make those scales pop? (someone mentioned they were vulcanite).

I think you did a wonderful job! You should be proud. I recently did one of those brass framebacks and I think they are some of the prettiest razors from a visual standpoint.

And did I read " ,,,was making progress and I couldn't stop" ? Ha,,, way to go. Do I see a future addict in you? Fun 'eh? Great job and you have a beautiful razor for your efforts.
And as you said "take your time". It's the only way to do it.

You left a smudge on the blade? What were you thinking? Yeah, like I've never done that. Along with blobs of compound,, fingerprints, wax and you name it.

Looks great, I would say he (Johan) would be proud to see it put back to good use and well cared for.

Ive had good results on bakelite with car polish (for paint)

Looks really great!!! Mycarver did my Joseph Rogers frameback that looks pretty close to that one (I assume that's what he's referring to) and it came out stunning!!! I really like the looks of the brass and steel!!! Great Job!

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Means a LOT coming from this community with such exquisite work churning out of here. I really do love the brass frameback, and can't wait to hone it up and try it out with that beautiful smile it has.
