What's new

Would anyone care to talk me out of buying an SOC boar?

I've been laboring over which brush to get for my second brush.
Well folks, the labor is over (at least I hope it is).
I've decided to get an SOC boar.
I use soap almost entirely. I face lather most of the time but bowl lather too.
It just seemed like the SOC is considered the best boar and I figured why not try it? I can always BST it if I don't like it.
So, talk me out of it if you can, but you better be quick. I'm going to sell a razor and buy a brush....
Thanks to everyone who posts here for giving me lots of info regarding brushes (and other things).

No, I won't talk you out of it. I used my SOC boar today, and it's a terrific brush.

What I can do is point you to the least expensive places to get one:

Vintage Scent: http://vintagescent.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=113
Definitely the least expensive, but shipping can be slow. I ordered my SOC 2-band from them several weeks ago, and probably have at least a week more to wait.

Shaving.IE: http://www.shaving.ie/products/semogue-owners-club-2-boar-cherry.html
A buck or two more expensive but much faster shipping. Everything I've ordered from them has arrived in about a week.

Hope you enjoy your new SOC!

Nick

The only little tiny minor knock on it would be that it'd a bit on the big side. Aside from that, I've got nothing but good things to say, especially after it breaks in. The handle is comfortable, the tips are soft, the backbone is great.

Techichi usually has some SOC boars in stock too. Worth a look-see.

Enjoy!!

Oh your ordered it already? Yeah that was a bad decision, sorry about that... I'll PM you my address and you can go ahead and forward it to me to get rid of for you, that way nobody can continue to fault you for the bad choice... :001_tongu

I find that it's actually a little too large. When fully bloomed it's effectively larger than an Omega Pro 49. I'm keeping mine -for now- but I wouldn't buy it again, lovely as it is. I prefer my Semogues 1250 and 1305.

But that's just me.

It's a fantastic brush. Only issue might be its size for face lathering. I typically use it to bowl lather.

You'll love it.

I have a couple of Simpsons, a couple of Rooneys, a couple of M&Fs, a Thater, a couple of D01 Shavemacs and a Kent ... and lately I find myself using my SOC boar more and more. I generally have three out that I rotate between and after I while I put those away and take out 3 other ones. The last few times I made the switch I only switched out a couple of badgers but left the SOC in the rotation. I'd like to talk you into one if I can.

While I LIKE my SOC, I LOVE my Semogue 620. The SOC is a little large for my taste. I wish the 620 had a slightly larger handle, but I'll trade off the smaller than ideal handle for the knot that is just right.

Nobody here will talk you out of anything. Except maybe a cartridge shave or some canned goo. We support almost all shaving purchases!!!

Wow. So it sounds like I shouldn't get it. You are all so negative.
OK. Taking pictures now to sell something on BST...
Cherry SOC it is. If I love it, and I think I will, the next up is the 620 (or the 610).
Thanks to this wonderful community of dedicated enablers.

And thanks for the advice about its large size too. I am going to push ahead. If it is too big, then it is off to the BST with it!

Lol^^^^^^

It is a great brush, my regular one this week. Great with a bowl, though I am using it to face lather too. For the price it s super value and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
