Work Boots Part Umpteen

Gents I need help. I wore these Chippewa pull on boots for years. Double tough, great comfort, and getting quite expensive. Bordering on $200 per pair depending on where you buy them. When you can find them. I love the danged things but have developed a problem that has gotten worse as I age. I am running my heels over to the outside. Particularly on the right side. This beyond annoying. It leads to foot pain after awhile and requires expensive heel repair at the local cobbler. My "solution" to this last spring was to buy a pair of Dr. Marten's Industrial line of lace up work boots. Nice boot, pretty comfortable, and a bit less damage money wise at around $130. A serious problem arose a few months later when they developed a HORRID mildew odour. I still can't get it out. This isn't foot odour as you would normally think of it. I am lucky in that I don't get that issue from 99% of the footwear I own. This was due to the lace up nature of the shoe not allowing air circulation around the foot. My pull ons allow a lot of air to move around your foot. So I head off to Vanderbilt's (you chaps from the midwest and prairies states are probably familiar with this chain of stores) to look for a new pair of pull ons. I am also cursed with wide feet. A double e (EE) width is the norm. Sometimes wider depending on brand. I tried boots from Double H, Justin, and Ariat and found that even their wides didn't feel right. I couldn't get them on my feet. The state of production boots is horrible. Quality. What quality? Aside from that is the proper lasting that makes each foot of a boot or shoe fit the way it does. I looked at one pair that were listed a "extra wide" and they couldn't have been three inches across the ball of the foot! Someone who wears medium (D) width would have an issue wearing them. Where do look guys? I am getting desperate. If I have to go the way of the $79 throw away each year I guess I can but it bothers me. On the other hand, I really need to buy two pairs so I can alternate each day. With the Chips that would leave me out $400 fast. I just can afford to do it. Please give your opinions about size/fit of your favourite boots. Particularly width. I wear 9.5 EE in Chippewas, Tony Lama, and most shoes. Yet a 9.5 E worked a treat in my old Red Wing Pecos. Those are NOTHING like they were "back in the day". I just have no idea where to look. I would love nothing more than hand made customs but all the better makers are booked with 1-3 year turn around time and most pairs start at $500 and up. Some go well over a thousand dollars. Ouch.

Regards, Todd

I've got some Wolverine's now, probably not what you're looking for if you want more upscale. I wear them 4 days a week for 10 hours and have had them for almost 5 years now. They're not the most comfortable but they're alright, although I'm actually in the office the majority of the work day.

I hear good things about Red Wings and I'd probably get some if I wanted to drop that much on work boots. But I don't.

Take a look at WORX by Red Wing they have some styles with a oblique toe (44% more room) they also have wide widths.....the prices are a little more affordable than the Red Wings.....Red Wing boots have styles that come in widths that go up to H (EEEE)

Thank you for the replies. I have looked at Wolverine and may go that way. I am unfamiliar with the WORX line of Red Wings. It is hard for me to take Red Wings seriously anymore. I guess it stems from seeing the "before and after" of production boots. Years ago Red Wing, Hyer Brothers Boots (Olathe Boot, now essentially defunct), Nocona, Tony Lama, and Dan Post were second to none. Lucchese, along with Hyer/early Olathe Boot, were dang near hand made quality. NONE of them are anything like they were just 25 years ago. I notice that most Red Wings are still USA made but man, the pair of Pecos I looked at last weekend were a ghost of their former quality. And theyh are now $170 per pair. Don't get me wrong chaps, I will pay for quality. Cheap work shoes are a no no for my feet. I just don't know where to start for a lower heeled pull on work boot. The search continues.

Sorry guys. Technically Olathe Boot still exists but it is down in Tejas and is geared almost exclusively toward rodeo riders. That is not a bad thing by itself. It is just not something that we who used to buy boots from the company who invented the modern cowboy boot wanted to see. It used to be about 25 miles from my house. A danged shame.

if there is a mexican/latin flea market in your area go check it out.there is a large one in atlanta in an old k-mart.it has a couple of boot vendors.nice looking boots work, dress and casual, made in mexico less than a 100 bucks.i forget the name of the manufacturer.the only drawback is no sizes above 11.5.:mad3:
i wear a 14eee.
i usually have to order from sportsmans guide or one of the on line companies that carry propet shoes and boots.

Incredible Quality, fantastic style.

They sell more than just crafted work boots, but the boots have a lifetime warranty.

There are distributers in the US as well.

I have a few pairs of these and love 'em. I don't think you would regret a pair for work. I will probably always have a pair. Worth looking into. They are comfortable, that is the big deal. Not like big cushion wolverine work boots, but they are their own thing.

The work boot models are a bargain also. It is cheaper to order from Oz. Get 'em here. http://www.bootsonline.com.au/default1.htm

Wouldn't I love to buy a pair or five of Russel Moccasins! Their Cavalier model or maybe the Zephyr looks about right. Again, I just don't know if I can man up $400 for a pair. Let alone double that for a trade off pair. Danner? Good stuff but they really don't make pull ons. I like those Aussie boots too. Mayhaps worth a look.

get 2 pairs of boots and some cedar shoe trees..don't go cheap on feet and alternate days of wear. Redwing has a line made in the USA that are pretty high quality at a reasonable price (under $300) Doc Martens has a 'vintage' line that is good quality I hear as well (don't know first hand about Docs though I believe they are Made in the UK)

I've got Timberland Classics, there a bit ''Gangsta'' but good boots. Obviously I try not to wear them with the tongues open and jeans tucked in!
I really fancy a pair of Blundstone boots from Australia
