So my eagle has finally hit home base! Possibly the last one to do so brand new. Have all the other 6 late arrivals done so? Frankly it was pretty awesome of the folks at WCS to allow the profits from this venture to support 2 great charities so thanks to them!
OK now it's brush time!
First impressions: the aesthetic proportions between the hair and handle are to me exquisite really top notch, in terms of current production handles it is rivaled only by the Simpsons Tulip2 and the Plisson metal "bullet" handle for ergonomic purposes it is unrivaled. The knot to me is VERY similar to the CH1 in best I owned if it is not the same knot in a different handle. That said if Simpsons had to pick a knot to re-use or to base a new one on they couldn't have done any better than a Chubby best, it is the only brush I have ever regretted getting rid of and I am glad of the eagle to replace it!
The Knot: The density is very high as always with Simpsons, if you enjoy less dense brushes (then use of a dense brush will cure your disorder) don't go near this brushmaker let alone this particular brush. My Rooney Finest is definitely a tad denser but we are talking very very slightly, so it won't make that much difference. The backbone is excellent for the Eagle and it certainly provides a very pleasant massaging of the face allowing the brush to splay out a good deal without giving the wet noodle feel of some floppier brushes, another great result in this category. The tips of the bristle are so important for a guy with sensitive skin like me (prickly pure badgers are a no no) and the eagle delivers Still present enough to be a beast of a face latherer but not causing undue irritation good job!
Lathering: Well as I am sure you already know performance is where the Eagle Kicks it up a notch to 11! The Eagle is most definitely a soap killer just as it was designed to be. It is ulp... (now whispering) better than my Rooney Finest scared (don't ask me to repeat that EVER!) on hard soaps I'm honestly not sure if anything can compete it just works so well.
Price: Trust me this would still be decent value at twice the price!
In conclusion despite still being at the "new brush YAY!!!" part of the buying process I feel enough trust in the Eagle to sing it's praises. Now I accept this is tantamount to torture because there are none left at WCS AFAIK. Take this as an open invitation to scour the BST for one it will be worth your time. I feel an instant connection with this brush as I rarely have with others I have even named it Henry after the boxer Henry Armstrong as the brushes relentless work on the soap reminds me of armstrong, quite the compliment to give to a humble brush. IMHO the B&B Eagle is Pound for Pound one of the best brushes available everyone should have 1 but I know mine will never be for sale .
Price : 10 it is for charity after all
Quality : Initial impressions 10, just hope it doesn't shed!
Density :8
Stiffness of Tips : 8
Softness of Tips :9
Ergonomic :10
Latherability :10 soaps 9 creams
Last word what do other more experienced eagle owners think is it still as good as it was when you first got it? For those that have sold it why so did the eagle end up dissapointing? Also are there any brushes you find work just a little better than the Eagle all round?
Regards Grant
