I recently switched to TOBS St. James a/s and was wondering since it doesn't have witch hazel in it should I use some witch hazel prior to putting on the a/s?
I always use witch hazel prior to using an aftershave. Even if a given aftershave contains witch hazel, it's in a far reduced concentration, so I would still use both products anyway.

I pat my face with a towel after final cold water rinse, then liberally apply the witch hazel.
However, I wouldn't think it would make any difference if your face was wet though

+1. When I finish my shave, I rinse with hot water, then cold. Pat dry. Then some Dickinson witch hazel. I let my face air-dry after that, then go to AS ... read that regime somewhere. Anyway, by the time I clean up the shave area, I'm ready for the AS and EDT ...
