Some of you probably know, some of you may not care--but witch hazel, Hamamelis virginiana is a shrub native to Illinois among other places that can grow anywhere from 10 to 15...possibly up to 30' tall if you believe the University of Connecticut.
The picture is from the plant at the corner of my garage--it is 8 years old, carefully pruned and in scale with its surroundings. I have not tried to distill my own yet--but there is a nifty little article talking about the process and other medicinal aspects of the plant:
