What's new

Windows 8

I just bought a new laptop that has windows 8 and IM having problems trying to add photos to a post. Everything seems to be the same but when I hit the upload files nothing happens. The only thing that I notice that is different is when I click on the photo that I want to attach the small photo that usually appears in the lower left hand corner isn't there. Any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong.... I don't have any problems when I use windows 7 at work.

Are you trying to attach from a file on your computer or from another website? I assume by upload you are pushing it from your computer so it sounds like a browser issue.

I log onto Google and then Badger and Blade.

Do you know what program you use to log onto Google? Do you think it might be Microsoft Internet Explorer?

Does the top of the window when you're on B&B look like this:

Hi CoventryCowboy

When you get on the internet, do you have a bar at the bottom of the page like the one at the bottom in this image?

I'm crossing my fingers he's using IE, since installing Google Chrome is my common fix to a myriad of Internet issues.

Yeah, but the current Windows 8 style Chrome is plagued with problems. A reinstall from the Desktop forces it to use old style Chrome which doesn't have the Metro-induced issues (especially with Java).

Didn't know about that issue, since I'm still running Windows 7. Sounds like you may be better qualified to help the OP than me, especially if you're running Windows 8.

ugh.. I hate Windows 8. I hate it on my laptop. It's terrible. If given the option, RUN! Do not upgrade from 7!

Microsoft did a lot to make alternative browsers virtually unusable in WIN8. It's a royal pain. FF doesn't work (rarely, it does.. but one new navigation click, and it doesn't work again), Chrome is a little better. Microsoft really wants you to use IE, which is what I bet the OP is using. IE10.

Sorry, I wish I could help more than that. My bet: it's a windows 8 problem.

I am sick to death of windows 8. Desktop versions of programs wont work properly. My new laptop came with adobe installed and the program wouldn't work until the latest update came out 3 weeks later. It also has a habit of freezing in the middle of installing programs forcing you to start again. Facebook and Gmail wont load properly and have to be reloaded multiple times which is a major pain especially since my University and Job but use google for their email networks. It also refuses to recognise ipods viewing them as harmful code and ejecting them as soon as they're plugged in. It's mess of an OS when I think about all the b****ing people did about Vista I have to laugh, the "problems" Vista had look like first world problems in comparison

My philosophy with Windows since the late '90s has been to run every other version. Windows 98 was ok, Windows ME was not. Windows XP worked fine for me, Windows Vista was a mess. Windows 7 is excellent, and Windows 8 sounds like it's worth avoiding. Looks like the pattern is holding.

Thanks guys for all the in put you have given me. What IM going to do is ask my neighbor who's a recently retired programmer for some help. Thanks again guys.

Have any of you tried ClassicStart for Windows8? It overrides the entire Metro Interface and restores the previous Win Start Menus (and you can choose which from Windows 7 back to ME I believe). As to trouble, I've really had very little with the system and every benchmark I've run shows more stability and better response than any previous Windows version. I'm a huge Debian user so for me to admit that I actually like this iteration of Windows is a big step.

I've not heard about it, but ClassicStart sounds interesting. I'll look into it, especially if I end up buying another machine that already has Windows 8.

I'm also a Linux fan and feel a little guilty for running Windows as my OS. One of my buddies is the guy who developed Slackware Linux, and I feel that I should be a more loyal friend and use his OS instead.
