Williams Shaving Soap!

Just picked up two boxes today at Stater Bros. for $1.25 each! I'm hoping they're half descent, but I won't be completely heart broken if it's not everything and more.

Has anyone used this before? How do you like it? How long does one puck usually last?

You're going to get a LOT of answers to your question!

Williams is a love / hate kind of thing.
I like it, I use it. Some folks have a very hard time making it lather, and heap hate upon it to the nth degree.

You've got it, you might as well give it a go. Worst case scenario, it'll make a fine bath or shower soap!

About a month into using it you will say "When will this thing be finished!" If you make it that far you can make lather out of anything.

Hah! Your comment made me chuckle a little bit and gave me something to look forward to. I'm currently using AOS lavender. The sales guy said it should last a year, I think he pitched me because its been like 6 months of moderate use and I probably have only a month left on the thing.

I gave the new Williams puck a go tonight for a test lather and I loaded it then hand lathered and it lathered like a champ! The scent is so so but for $1.25 what do you expect, right?

So have two mugs so you can alternate to something else when you feel you may be getting tired of it. I have four active mugs.

Williams, yes we can! Yes we can lather the hockey puck. Someone should start a Williams threads/club called "Masters of Williams" or something like that or "Jedis of Williams" to pass the knowledge of lathering to new disciples. :a45: Watch the dark side join the thread...

I'll help you out by providing some hard earned tips:

1. Soak a new puck overnight.
2. Load your brush like there is no tomorrow.
3. Use and keep adding water in a reckless fashion.
4. Enjoy one of the best post shave feelings in the world.

Picked up a puck myself for .99 a time back just for fun. Actually beat it into submission and got a pretty thick lather out of it. It is a very, very thirsty soap.

The Lather Maestro
These threads make me nuts. I have to go buy one tomorrow.

I used this soap for about a dozen years before I came here and 'got straightened out'. :wink2: I was using carts, too and when I came here I started the DE and other soaps and have not had Williams since.

But I also did not 'know how to lather', which may be why I remember getting great results. I didn't know what I was doing. :001_tt2:

What I do remember, is I did not know about loading the brush. I lathered right on the puck. I would fill the mug with the soap with hot water and put the brush in to soak while I showered. Then I'd dump the water off the soap, shake the brush a time or two, and lather on the soap until I got the consistency I wanted. Worked great.

Having not seen any for a couple years I must revisit Williams.

Williams holds my mug hostage. It wont die. I have used it every other day, and sometimes daily since Dec. Kinda like a family member that comes for a visit and decides to stay for an indeterminate length of time. So I will lean on it in the next few weeks to wear it out.

Heck I'm even lathering up the wifies legs and anything else in the house that needs shaved.

Williams is like the Cousin Eddie of soaps!

I picked up about 20 pucks when our local grocery store (Publix) was doing a close out for .79/each.

Its a thirsty soap from what I have found. I keep the puck in the box because I like to open it up and see the Aqua Velva reference on the box top :w00t:

There would be no use to have a club to spread the word, as the doubters will never believe what we say.

$1.25?

99 cents??

You guys paid too much. I snagged 5 of them on clearance from my local grocery store for 79 cents each.

Like the smell a lot, but it's a so-so lather (at least in my water) and after a few shaves, I used the rest of the puck as a bath soap.

I have somewhere around 20-25 boxes. I cleared out two Krogers while they were on clearance for 50 cents each.

I like it just fine...does the job. I also enjoy the scent, wish it was a stronger scent, but you get what you pay for.

Great all around soap. The scent becomes a nice change from some of the heavy perfumed soaps I have acquired. Also I have no idea why some have a hard time lathering it. Just use a more wet brush lather for 30 to 45 seconds with your mug tilted to a 90 degree angle so the larger foam bubbles spill out into sink and then Tah-Dah Great lather!

Is it really as good as some say? I ordered the equivalent from Prairie Creations...Walters Shaving Soap. Maybe I should buy a puck of Williams just because of the name! LOL
