Williams at $6.00 or more?

How much more for Williams soap with the old formula?

  • Price would have to stay around $2.00

  • Double $4.00

  • Triple $6.00

  • 4X $8.00

Just curious, for those of us that have tried Vintage Williams, how much more would you pay per puck to have the good stuff back? IMHO, the vintage stuff rivals anything out there for shave quality, minus the scent. It sells for around $1.75 now. So what would you pay, gentleman? What would be fair?

I'd pay $8-10 without thinking twice about it. Used vintage Williams this morning and it really is that good.

I have paid about $10 per puck for it off of Ebay, and felt it was totally worth that price. If only there were an amazing tallow soap available locally. :tongue_sm

However, if sold at that price the company would have to redo their marketing, and change where they sell the product. The current target demographic probably wouldn't pay more than $2 per puck.

Oh, and by the way, I think this new puck should have a nice rose, or lavender smell. None of the horrific, repulsive, citronella smell of the current version.

I would pay triple the cost. I like the current VDH puck and it's priced similar to the current Williams puck. So for a few dollars more I believe that Williams could get much closer to there original formula and re-take some of the shaving soap market. I was fortunate to obtain 8 pucks of Vintage Williams (NOS) soap for the grand price of 8 bucks CDN.

Side note wouldn't it be nice to see P&G bring back the Old Spice soap puck for a promotional time?

I marked that I would pay $8 or more. Interesting thought you have there. Most people have not heard of Williams luxury, with the rose scent, so they could just start right there. I would buy it for sure.

To elaborate, I don't think we are the target demographic. The target demographic as I see it is older gentlemen who have always used shaving soap, and know of no other products except Williams, and perhaps VDH. If they can't get it locally, it doesn't exist.

These men are likely to be pretty frugal, and hence wouldn't pay more than $2.

Also, as near as I can tell Combe spends close to nothing promoting Williams.

New people trying the product are probably being driven to it from these boards; they have to find out for themselves if it is as bad as we say it is.:lol:

I've paid $7 for it from an online antique dealer. It must have been stored next to a bunch of other old pharmacy supplies because it smells of liniment and tensor bandages

I'd easily pay up to $15 for the vintage.

You'd have to pay ME a whole lot more than that to use the new stuff again...:001_rolle

The vintage stuff is what? 1.6oz per puck at $10.

MdC is 6.1 oz at $65 - see those of you that can justify the cost of vintage williams can justify MdC :biggrin1:

I think that just about every member here is quite adept at rationalization and justification!

The wives never seem to share our reasons though....

I would love it if they made a menthol variaty again. Modern Williams has a smell I did not like and I tossed it. But OH! The lather!

My wife then picked up a puck at the grocery (it's $1.50 hey!) so I put that on the shelf and plan to try in in 2015.
