Will Tech handles fit a NEW head?

Hi all. This is my first post here. Great informative and friendly site.

I'm wondering if the handle of a Tech (or clone) might fit on a Gillette NEW head. My motivation for asking this is that I'd really like an open comb razor in the NEW style (down turned teeth) and I've noticed a lot of the NEWs and Aristocrats have split handles or are expensive, hard to find, etc. I'm not a collector, but I would like to have a couple of older razors, i.e. a nice Tech and a NEW, or alternately two heads and one nice handle. I don't shave often so the NEW-style open comb seems like it would be good on my slightly bearded, sensitive face. I'm also a bit of a cheapskate and do not have much money (part of the reason I've switched to DE shaving).

Ebay is a bit frustrating, but has been my best source of finding razors.

Well, I guess my basic question is if Tech handles are interchangeable with those of other 3 piece Gillettes. I have not been able to find this topic anywhere, so I thought I'd join and ask myself.

Worked for me:

also depends on the NEW. if it there is a ridge on the bottom of the head's base plate (as seen above) you will need a skinny handle join. if the NEW base plate is flat, then any handle will work.

In other words the thread pattern is correct but there could be other variables.

Thanks for the additional replies. Looks like it's not as simple as I'd hoped (though clearly explained by Paul) and I'd have to make sure I'm getting the right combo. Seems like a good option should I come a across a NEW with a lousy handle, but decent head.
