What's new

Will someone make a new SE?

Hey guys, I'm honestly surprised that no one has made a new SE razor at this point. The traditional shaving market continues to grow and new DE's pop up all the time. Is the SE market that small? I would love to try a new design, possibly stainless steel SE razor. What say you B&B?

Well Bullgoose and Lees' razors are in product development of 2, two, ss se razors. One will take the Kai/Feather long blade and is currently called The Katana. The smaller will be ss and take injector blades( I offer the name-Wakazishi). But I'll tell ya' that after looking at lots of patents for razors, it is a daunting project , particularly in a ymmv world market. even in this new age of 3-D printers and cnc mills, it is a daunting process. Have a great week of shaving!

Not only a new variety of modern SE razors (non injector type) but even a return to the elegant lather catcher designs. It would be great to see a bit more variety of SE blades also. Unfortunately, there probably isn't enough of SE users out there to create a sizable market to convince manufacturers to start making modern SE razors.

I have drawn up a lot of designs and thought about how best to make it happen, but the market is so small that the price would be too high. Finding reliable plating can be a pain, and any sort of manufacture has liability issues. It's just not feasible on a small scale. Such a shame!

I would love to see someone come up with a new SE, but doubt we ever will. If only someone would make an Ever-Ready Streamline clone with OC. Ah, to dream...

+100 My Jr. Bar is my favorite razor. Used it this a.m., in fact.
Without a doubt the Junior Bar is one of the best. Sometimes they can go for a good low price I've been trying to add more Gem Jr. Bar razors to my collection.

Now William, if they made OC Streamlines you'd snag them all up and we wouldn't have any to play with and that isn't nice hmm? A modern open comb Streamline I wouldn't mind seeing them in a gold finish either.

I'm looking forward to learning more about the "Katana". Sounds like an interesting project.

There would be no point in coming up with something that simply replaces an older design. The originals are available for a song. You can get a 1912 in good shape for less than $10, a MMOC in good shape for less than $10. Pretty much items that may have a market are expensive - Streamlines or really old and originally designed for no longer extant blades in new form - Lather Catchers. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a new SE, but I really don't see the business case for one given the prevalence of cheap original SEs and the extremely small market for SEs in general and expensive SEs, as any new razor would have to be.

I contemplated this several months ago and came to the conclusion that the old-school process required special punching dies to make the frames.* That's just one stage of the process. I think prototyping the frame would be costly and time consuming.

*Specifically, if the objective were to recreate a variation of the Gem-1912 design.
