I've picked up some vintage Gillettes recently, and became interested in single edge razors as well. I've seen quite a few posts praising them, and I think the G-Bar is just about the coolest looking razor ever made, so lately I've been visiting ebay and grabbed a G-Bar and a few other good deals. Should be fun to try out, and hopefully they will work well to handle my tough whiskers.
I'll post a photo and add a few notes about each razor:
1. Gem Push Button. Looks like it's in pretty decent shape. Handle is a little beat up, some soap scum there too, which should come off. Good amount of gunk around the safety bar, which hopefully will come off. Buttons work well.
2. Gem G-Bar. Looks pretty nice on the outside, save for some crud around the safety bar. There's a thin layer of scum on the underside of the cap, which actually looks like it will be kind of stubborn. But if that comes off well, I got a good deal for under $5 shipped.
3. Gem Feather Weight. Very good shape, pretty clean already for the most part. A little bit of plate loss in some areas of the safety bar. Looks quite nice overall.
4. Schick Injector Type E. It has only one patent no. on it, so I believe that would make it a Type E. Some gunk around the safety bar that may be a little tough to clean, some other soap scum that shouldn't be too difficult to remove.
Not pictured. Schick Injector Type I2 (Eversharp Hydro-Magic w/ lever. Black handle, gold head). A little grungy, but looks like it will clean up well. The blade alignment seems to be a bit off. Got a good price on it, though (~$8), so can't complain. Hopefully it will still shave well.
I was debating using either Scrubbing Bubbles or Simple Green to clean these and the Gillettes. People seem to have pretty good luck using those products... I wonder which would be better to use on the plastic (and bakelite) handles and gold heads?
If there's anything else I need to know, or anyone has any advice, suggestions, etc., I'd definitely like to hear it.
