Wiki info to be added for Single Edge

From my very short jump into the SE world, I see that we are lacking information about them in the Wiki (GEM, Lather Catchers, Micromatic, Injectors, etc). and I would like to add to it as much as I can.

Here's what I have in mind and please, feel free to add to the plan! :001_tongu

  • I would like to transfer the Blade Guide in Wiki that Tom made (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/292388-Single-edge-blade-guide) and would also add the info for the Injectors (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/282672-Injectors) on the same page. That way we would have 1 resource for the blades as, let's face it, those are not as common to obtain as DE Blades.
  • Next, a SE tutorial with either a GEM or Ever-Ready (or insert your SE razor here) with pictures. Something basic that would show this is a first shave with a single edge. Same would go with the Injector (so 2 tutorials).
  • Detailed pictures on how to reload the SE magazine and Injector magazine. I know it's simple but sometimes, a picture is so much clearer
  • Detailed pictures on how to load a SE razor and Injector Razor.
  • Maybe a page on "First jump in the SE/injector world, what do I need?"
  • Custom Handles for SE - How to attach one - http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/350756-SE-custom-handles and if there's a list of who makes them, that would be great.
  • Blade Angle with a SE/Injector. This is something that I often see, even in the DE world where the handle is the reference point and when it comes to a SE, it's really not the same thing...

That's all I could think of for now. I want to put this in the Interactive guide.

If you know where I could find the informaiton, please let me know and I will transfer it to wiki. If you have any other idea on what would be missing, please let me know.

Great idea.

SE magazine?

I bought some SE blades (Personna) and they came in a small plastic box. I think I can open it without cracking it but I will need to sit down with some light and my tools.

Need something that lets people know that the Streamline/Jewel is the single greatest razor ever designed. All others pale in comparison. ;)

You are silly, it is definitely a nice razor (one of my favorites) but it is hard to say it is the greatest, my Swedish C.V. Heljestrand Kindal is a bit better IMO.

Luc, I am so glad to hear this news. I'm fairly new to the SE thing and I'm finding they definitely have some differences. I'm trying to master a "new" GEM G-Bar.

I'm kidding. I get just as good a shave from my OC Damaskeene and OCMM as my Streamlines. I just prefer the heft and handle of the Streamlines to any of them. :)

There are actually pages for most of the ASR post-lathercatcher models hidden away in the Safety Razor Database, but obviously they're much more focused on the razors themselves. More "how-to" and introductory content would be absolutely great.

Is reloading this actually something that people do? It certainly doesn't seem impossible, but I've never bothered and I can't say that I've ever heard of someone doing it. :confused1

I saw the information that we have about Single Edge in the database but we are lacking information on the razors themselves. There could be more, better organised and things like the Cobra is not in there.

For the SE magazine, that's why I mentioned it. I find it useful to have a dispenser for the SE and if I can refill it, it would be fantastic!

The pages that are there on the various models seem to have about as much information as the equivalent pages on Gillette models. There are certainly more models that could be added, and I'd be happy to start stubbing out links to models that I know are missing so that we could add content to them as we're able.

I'm not sure I see a much better way to organize them than what we've got going there, though it would be good to get the "organized by date" section at least roughed in, too. Maybe it would also help to have thumbnail photos of the razors up at the list level for folks who don't know exactly the name of what they're looking for...?

This might be a question worth starting a separate thread on to see if anyone out there currently does refill these dispensers and could share some tips.

The models by year can be done, I need to have a look on the DE section to see how they work right now.

The thumbnail is a good idea. I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be better to split the page where you would be sent to a double edge page and a single edge page. If we load some pictures, it can become heavy quickly...

Added 1 dot, the SE/Injector blade angle. It's very different to a DE where the handle is often the reference for the right angle... I will come up with some pictures for sure.

Just a head's up, I started writting an introduction to SE/Injectors. I will post it and link it back here when it's ready. As always, since wiki is a collaboration tool, if someone feel like they can to what I write, please go ahead. If we can make it the best that would be awesome as I do not think that I have all the knowledge for this. Far from it. And if you need help, I'm always here!

Edit: Mmm, looks like I made the pages as Interactive Guide to DE Razor Shaving... Well, looks like we will need a Interactive Guide to SE Razor Shaving

I had a list in the making, I will merge it with yours. Thanks Alex

I look forward to your contributions , I know it will be great as always. And thanks for helping me on the Apollo thread and the TV movie shave scene threads.
