Why do you need a razor stand?

I suppose some would say they help drying but I dry the bulk of the moisture off after use and lay the razor open (TTO) or disassembled (2 or 3-piece) on a terry towel. Some of the stands certainly look nice but many of us use a rotation of razors so there's little need.

For me there is no practical function to the stand. I use it completely for aesthetics and as part of my shaving ritual. Each day when I shave, the razor that I shaved with is placed in the nickel stand on my counter for the day. Next day a new razor is chosen and occupies the stand for the day. I think straights are beautiful and like to have one on display.

I have one DE that I use on a regular basis, and several straights. I use a toothbrush holder for the straights and a stand for the DE. I like to keep them off the counter top.

Also, Bill...maybe stands could be a new AD for you!:lol:

Inconceivable!

Rollie, sorry for getting off point. Couldn't resist.

Why do I need 4 types of shave soaps?, why do I need 3 types of shave creams? Why do I need 463 straight razors? It's all part of the collection, man!! I want all thing shave related to go into my shave den.

So I'm not wrecking the blade of my Winchester in anyway by putting it on a towel, and not in a stand that is somewhat too big for it?

I understand for a brush, but why for a razor, can't you close it and lay it gently on its side?

I don't think you need a stand for your straights...as long as you've dried them properly after use. Similarly, for DE's they're not essential.

Having said that, I made a stand to hold (some of) my DE's and my brushes and will probably make another to hold my straights...I've currently got 3 standing in a spare glass, on top of the drawer unit that houses the rest of my stuff :001_smile

You don't need a razor stand, according to my friend Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown. :thumbup1:

I currently have about 30 shavers, and another 50 or so razors in various stages of restoration.

I don't "Need" a razor stand (I use vintage barber boxes) but without them I would need another two or three desks.

If you only have one or two straights, I don't see the need either except for display purposes.

The razor stand has the exact same function as a brush stand: makes it look pretty

+1 You don't NEED a stand. I had a spare toothbrush holder that holds my razors nicely and since I usually keep blades in at least 3 of my six razors (two loaded for me, and one for my wife), keeping them in a stand keeps them further out of the hands of the kiddos. Plus, I don't have the counter or cabinet space to keep most of my razors where I can look at them!
