Why Do I Like This Razor?

I was given a Tech to try out. I never seem to have my glasses around at the same time I have the razor so I am not exactly sure what year it's from. It does have some red paint stuff left over at the end of the handle which I think identifies it?

Anyway, I have ended up using it as my "first pass" razor with a Feather in it, followed by one of my others like the EJ for a second and third pass. I want to believe there's some science to this, that I'm not imagining things and there's a reason I like this vintage, what used to be inexpensive razor over my EJ or Merkur.

Also, I swapped out the handle for the one on my Merkur because it's just easier to use. Is this blasphemous?

The Tech is just a fantastic razor. I like it better than the EJ too. I like my Progress better, but I like the Tech well enough that I want to get better handle for it.

The Tech is a great little razor.

Ball-handled tech. I have a couple of these and they're great shavers but the fat handle they made for it is quite a bit nicer IMO.

So this may be a stupid question ... The good news is it will not be my first or last:

Are replacement handles sold?

No because Gillette does not make these razors anymore but you can get another Tech for $10-$15 or you can buy a completely different modern handle and put the Tech head on it.

Looking at the Wiki I guess this is a '38-'49?

I understand these are no longer made but is there one which has a similar head with a wider handle? Or who makes handles?

I thought finding the soap I liked was difficult, now there's all sorts of things to consider!

Very nice, teak?

And re-plated I assume.

Sigh, I told my wife I'd save money doing this.

Oh no, you won't save any money doing this. Trust me on that one

Almost every handle "should" fit on your Tech head.

There are several aftermarket razor handles that you can get.

The two I posted were custom razors. The walnut handled one is part of a custom made set.

No, you are not going to save any money if you are already looking for custom handles

I love the Weber classic handle for my Tech heads. The ball end is too short and light, the fat handle is better but not perfect. The Weber adds length, weight and a lower balance point, which gives me a three pass DFS.
