Why are these Super Silvertip Vulfixs so inexpensive?

I have a Vulfix 1000A which I'm quite happy with. That said, I'd like to try something that's a little denser, more luxurious, and lathers more eagerly. I'd still like it to be somewhat scrubby.

I've been leaning toward a Rooney 2/1 in Super Silvertip, but I recently ran across these Vulfixs:

Less than $50 for a Super Badger brush? Why so inexpensive?

I'm not too big into the badger brushes, but I'll say that I don't think those are "silvertip." Badger hair classifications are not standardized accross manufacturers so "super," "best," "finest" etc. can be different from one manufacturer to another. I'd be willing to guess that those are so inexpensive because they are one of Vulfix's lower to mid-grade knots. Here are some Vulfix "Silvertip" brushes

Vulfix's Super Badger is indeed a grade of Silvertip.

I have the #41 and its as soft tipped as a Rooney Super.

Great value. Haven't used a Vulfix 'Silvertip', and for double the price I won't be any time soon.

They are good value-minded brushes, and as noted are indeed silvertip. They are not pure white awesomeness, like the rarer Simpsons two bands or Rooney finest, but are good brushes nonetheless. My first was a Vulfix 2233, and if anything perhaps they are less expensive than say a Rooney super because they are less densely packed, and they have a less exacting sorting procedure, so you end up with a 90% silvertip, 10% best mix...but that's just speculation.

Yes, density has a fair bit to do with it, and hair grades aren't standardised, so Silvertip isn't always Silvertip.

I have Vulfix 849, 19mm knot. I think I lost it in my Rooney 1/2 somewhere...

The vulfix is a great brush, I had one until I sold it last week. But they are the floppiest brushes ever made. In my opinion it is easily worth the extra $25 for the Rooney, and I'm a college kid so money is tight.

I have a Rooney 1/1 in Super that is absolutely wonderful, the only reason I would ever get rid of it would be to replace it with another. Hands down my favorite brush.

That being said, the Best Badger grade is very nice too, and is only $55 opposed to $75

The above covers it fairly well, as each manufacturer has their own standards. I have 2 Vulfix brushes in my rotation, and I find them to be excellent brushes. I got both from Classic Shaving, and I got them after I already had several more expensive brushes. If I had obtained the Vulfix's first I don't think I'd have bought the more expensive ones. That's just my opinion, YMMV.

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! I especially appreciate the comments on the density (which sounds lowish) and the floppiness (high). Those characteristics aren't what I'm looking for in my next brush, so I think I'll hold out for a Rooney 2/1 in either Super Silvertip or Finest.

But which? That's another post I suppose!
