What's new

Who's used Proraso Red?

I'd like to get some for my dad for Christmas, but I have no experience with it (another great reason to get him some!). I know the green is a big hit, but for winter use, I don't really want to get him anything with menthol. How does the red stand up as far as scent and shaving experience?

I like the scent. Woodsy and "warm". Latherability is as expected from Proraso...very good. Others have stated, and I'll agree, that all the new post-reformulation Proraso creams require a little more product than before. The Red is my favorite, and I like to occasionally use a mix of it with MWF. Since it's for your dad...get him both. :biggrin1:

I like the Red better than the Green. The scent is very earthy, very masculine, IMO. I'd be happy to send you a sample to try. PM sent.

I used the Red Proraso today for the first time and loved it. It made far more lather than I needed for four passes (a quarter sized dollop is too much!) and gave me an incredibly close and comfortable shave. More telling is that yesterday I did a very poor job of shaving - a couple of nics, weepers, and my neck had massive razor burn - and I was still able to get a fantastic and comfortable shave today. I only did two passes on my neck today (four every where else) - but I was only planning on one pass after yesterday's disaster.

The scent is enjoyable, but by the time I rinse with hot water, cold water, alum block every where, and then rinse that with witch hazel - there is no noticeable scent left over from any of my shaving soaps. That is why my last step is a shaving balm, and Proraso makes some nice ones.

Cheers

i like the scent of the green better, but don't mind the scent of the red; however, i think the red provides a smoother shave than the green.

I am now a fan of the new formula Proraso Green (I am sensitive/ allergic to SLS which was in the old formula and irritated my skin). Proraso green Is my favorite shave cream to use with my Parker SR1. I recently bought a tube of proraso green and the proraso aftershave splash. ( I had bought a small tube of the C.O. Bigelow in the new formula first) I am considering purchasing the Proraso Sandalwood and the ever elusive Proraso Blue.

Like others said very "earthy", almost like walking outside after it rained (at least to me). I'm 50/50 on the scent while it doesn't bother me i'm not crazy about it, however it lathers like a champ and i would buy it again.

The scent is soft and warm. You cannot go wrong with this cream; it's very, very nice and it's a top performer. Buy with confidence.

It's definitely good stuff. ShaverJoe brought me a sample and it's every bit as good as the Green, and I believe fits much better as a winter time scent.

Note that Bath and Body works, while it doesn't sell the C.O. Bigelow version of Proraso Red (yet), they do have the EdT and deodorant of it called Elixir Red, and it's fantastic!

That's actually good stuff! I usually use Proraso Red and I love it. The sandalwood scent is very pleasing

If your dad likes Sandalwood/Musk/masculine scents, he'll probably like it. I found it very repulsive. I'd get one first and have a sniff at it before giving it away as a gift.

Also, if you can I'd get him a tub of it. Im experience with Proraso the tub's are better than the creams in regards to scent and performance. Have you also given the white a thought?

I like it when I don't have the time to work up a lather off of a puck of soap. Get the brush wet, squirt a dab in the middle, and twirl it around on your hand for a second, and you're good to go. It leaves a film behind on everything more than other soaps though.
