What lucky SOB won this Rooney Finest? I'm calling dibs on the next one lol
What a dope considering you can buy a new one for $199.![]()
Actually you cant buy one new anymore. They are all sold (on the retail side) and they are no longer in production due to availability of the hair. It is an extinct brush, so you might expect to pay a premium on an already ultra premium brush.
After having a horn brush, I prefer plastic. Who wants a brush you have to oil? Some horn is gorgeous, but it just does not feel right in my hand.
I bid, but didn't win the auction. I might have bid higher for the faux ivory handle, or the tortoise if there is such a brush.
But I did talk to the seller and examined the brush. The knot was in fine shape, but the seller said that he prefers his Rooney Emillion. He had a few other brushes he planned to sell, and also some nice-looking restored straight-razors. So you may see more of him on eBay. Or perhaps on the B/S/T: he mentioned that he used to visit here, and I encouraged him to come back.
Did he mention what about the Emillion he liked more? I dont think I have ever seen a Rooney in Tortoise, just the horn. Though it would be nice. The coral does nothing for me, I'm kind of surprised they make brushes in that one odd ball color.
First, I hope he doesn't mind me discussing this online. He seemed like a gentlemen, and I appreciate him taking the time to meet with me and show me his collection. His Emillion had a white handle, not coral - and if you think that's odd, what about a rebranded lavender Rooney?
As to the reason for preferring the Emillion, when I heard that I expected him to bowl-lather, but he said that he face-lathered. He seemed to prefer a slightly larger knot and perhaps less scrubby brushes. I believe he favors creams over soaps, which might make a crucial difference.
Oh, and the tortoise definitely existed, but I don't know if it was ever available in finest. I understand that Rooney can't get the material to make any more of those handles, though.
blush: might want to watch BST in the coming weeks as I unload some brushes for some new brush I may have acquired
)
Wow
I cannot believe someone would pay more for one of these brushes than they retailed for.
What a buffoon!

Let me know how it compares to D01 and the like. I tried the super 3/1 and found that I missed the density of the big boys, but I wouldn't want the loft increase that Rooney med and larges get, so I'm hoping the Finest are much more dense, if not I'll just check Rooney off as a maker who's brushes I don't need to own. (Other than the Heritage I'm negotiating a trade for at the moment... shhh)
