Hey guys, as some of you may or may not know, I've been DE shaving for a little bit now. But RAD hit me HARD and I managed to score a good deal on a kit from Larry from Whipped dog for a razor, strop, and brush. (even though I already have 2 brushes). Anyways, I also went crazy and bought a razor on ebay. It should be coming soon. My whipped dog is more or less shave ready. It could use a hone but I'll wait to pay $15 to have it honed. However, my razor that is coming in will definitely be in need of a hone. I don't know how to hone, nor do I have the funds to purchase hones at the moment. Who or where do you think is one of the cheapest places to have my incoming razor honed?

Go to the Straight razor thread. Ask there. But do try to give Doc226 a pm. It's a lot of work to get one in shape on a quality stone. $15-20 plus shipping is about right.
I contacted Larry to have mine honed. One of his associates (I can't remember his name) honed it for $10.
if you bought the sight unseen package from Larry, it should be shave ready, without needing a strop on it, first shave. unless you got an undercut, cheaper package from him, all you should have to do is lay blade to face, the first time.
Doc226 does exquisit hone work. the best hones I've put on my face, period. and his turn around is very fast. a perfect gentleman to do any kind of work for you.

Enough good can't be said about doc226 in my opinion. I'd check with him.
